Camry 4-cyl

  • 60,000 miles
Since last year I am hearing a clicking sound, while turning steering and a glitch when pushing brake to stop. This looks like a similar issue for which prius were recalled. Too me its looks like a manufacture defect but Toyota dealership denies if this is consider to be recall or manufacturer defect.

I have always service the vehicle which is in great conditions and all of sudden I start notice a clicking noise in the Toyota Camry steering (example backing out of the parking lot and turns. I believe this may be a product defective for Camry intermediate steering shaft. There many people having the same symptoms. The mechanic said it is just like a rubber band type thing in the steering column stretched out and would not effect anything but if I wanted it fixed it would be $400. I didn't have the money at the time. One of my coworkers was borrowing the car the other day and pointed that out to me said it probably was a ball joint or strut or something wrong with steering. I had gotten use to this sound turning. Now I am worried. I bought this used and don't know what is wrong. I don't think I should be responsible for this fix when it only had 26K miles on it.

The steering intermediate shaft on my 2009 Toyota Camry is worn out and has a lot of play in the steering along with a popping noise when turning the steering wheel from left to right at any speed. I began to notice the problem around 60,000 miles, I now have 80,000 miles and it has gotten much worse. On 11/09/12, I took it to the dealership and they diagnosed the steering intermediate shaft as the problem and advised they stocked the parts because of it being a common problem. On 11/14/12, Toyota released a voluntary recall for 2004-2009 Toyota prius models which involved the steering intermediate shaft. The recall describes the exact problem I am having with my Camry. The recall should be extended to the Camry model as well.

Vehicle pulls hard to the left no matter what speed or lane you are in. Have visited the local Toyota dealership numerous times and all they do is switch the tires around. Vehicle has had 4 front end alignments and none have corrected the issue. Vehicle now has 80,000 miles on it and I am on my 5th set of tires due to the wear in them.

The steering mechanism is making a clicking or rubbing noise upon turning corners. Started about a month ago and has gotten progressively worse. Toyota dealership states that my entire steering shaft needs to be replaced at my cost. This car has not been driven that much and I feel the steering should not be a problem on such a new car.

Camry 4-cyl

  • 36,000 miles
At speeds over above 60 mph the car pulls hard to the left.this was reported to the dealer. I had to replace the rear brakes because the right rear brake froze and destroyed the rotor. I had a full brake inspection and was told that they were ok. One week later the front brake locked up on the passenger and went on fire. The dealer tells me the caliper froze. Now I have to replace all the pads and rotors on the front end. The is a serious and dangerous problem with this model Camry. I have read endless reports of difficulty with controlling this car while braking at highway speeds. This is a braking issue not alignment.

There has been common issue going with Toyota steering intermediate shaft getting loosed at unknown number of miles. Some cars getting it less than 36K ( which is under warranty ) some over 36K and customer ends up paying any where between $450-$900 depending upon what kind of model they are driving. I drive 2009 Camry its been maintained according to Toyota recommendation. Recently, steering started making clunk, knocking sound which is loud. Toyota dealer also agreed that sound is very loud. Its a safety issue. It can cause damage or never know break the steering. Looks like Toyota has been ignoring this issue and not recalling vehicles. Obviously cost saving would be the only reason.

Yesterday, June 14, 2010 at approximately 6:30 P.M. I pulled in my driveway and shut the engine off. I gathered my purse and a couple of packages out of the car, shut the door and realized I had not closed the drivers side window up all the way. I got back in the car, put my key in and the key would not turn. I struggled with it quite a while thinking maybe it was the key. Pulled the key out and examined it and found nothing wrong. I left the door ajar, so this time I closed the door thinking maybe this was a safety feature and again the key would not turned. It took me wrestling with the steering back and forth from side to side several times before the steering wheel unlocked to power up to shut the window. It was very frustrating and concerned me hoping it would never happen while the car was in motion with everything else going on with Toyota's and felt it needed to be reported and looked into.

2009 Toyota Camry pulls to the left while driving. The first incident the power steering gear assembly was replaced and reset front specs. The problem later occurred again and the consumer was informed that there was no problem with the vehicle. The consumer stated his fiance experienced sudden acceleration while applying the brakes to park the vehicle and ended up on the curb. The consumer received a phone call and was instructed to take the vehicle to the dealer, so the recall repair could be taken care of, but when he arrived at the dealer, he was informed they could only perform one repair. The consumer also stated an alignment did not resolve the issue of the vehicle pulling to the left.

We own a 2009 Camry SE. The car pulls to the left regardless of road grade. We have had the car aligned nine (9) times in 45 days. Each instance the alignment has read "out of alignment". the dealership has said there isn't anything they can do. We have purchased two (2) sets of tires and the problem hasn't been resolved. The vehicle has 28,000 miles. Steering while breaking - @10mph to stop: Pulls hard to the left. Steering wheel will turn 18 degrees counter clockwise before complete stop. Have repeated this consistently (eleven..11, times ) with dealership service mgr. In vehicle. This vehicle presents a definite safety issue. Vehicle is exceptionally difficult to drive in inclement weather conditions.. I.e., snow, ice and rain. Request further investigation and NHTSA involvement.

Camry

  • 140 miles
The car is difficult to steer in a straight line at higher speeds (above 50mph). The steering keeps pulling to the left even when the road is banked in the opposite direction. This has been present since new and currently car has 7000 miles. This was pointed out in the1000 mile service and wheel alignment was done by Toyota dealership to rectify the issue. However, the problem does not seem to be related to wheel alignment and is present even after the alignment work. At 70mph, the car is difficult to keep in a straight line using both hands on the steering, and a constant corrective effort is required. This makes the car go in a slight zig zag within the lane and does not inspire confidence, and needless to say scares other travelers driving in their own lanes. Another issue is very inconsistent braking. This is a Camry hybrid and the point of shift between regenerative braking and friction braking is very inconsistent. The regenerative braking feels and to be slow down the car at a slower pace until friction braking comes up and immediately slows the car down. The net result is car does not slow down as it should initially but then doing so very quickly. This is very evident is slow moving traffic. Plus, my car seems to have a light screeching noise coming from right brake (not the usual brake noise). This happens only when car is cold, and when not braking. When braking it goes away. It has been present since new and Toyota has not been able to replicate or correct it.

My Toyota Camry (2009) always steers to the left on highway. Have to hold tight to keep it straight. Sent to dealer, got four wheel alignment, but the problem still exists. Sent to the dealer again, the dealer said they could not find any problem. The problem is still there, my friend who drove the car felt the same.
