Camry SE 2.4L 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 70,000 miles

Just found out that my Camry 2010 consumed engine oil like crazy !! One day I drove home from work, I was so shock to see the engine oil pressure warning light ON. As soon as I arrived home I popped up the hood and checked the oil level, and sure enough there was no oil detected on the stick at all !!!. It was about 2000 miles from the last oil change. I ended up had to add 3 qts of oil on that day to bring up to somewhere at middle of the markers. I took the car to my local Toyota dealer the next day. they conducted the oil consumption test which included topped off with new oil and let me drive for about 1000 miles and then went back to have them check. The results were the mechanics agreed that there were internal leaks that required a major repair work. Luckily, I bought the extended coverage when the car was bought.

Anyway, I did some research on the internet and found that there were truck loads of this type of complaints regarding Toyota camry but Toyota never admitted. I guess they try to avoid a recall ... Despite the fix, I am still not very confident that I should continue to keep this vehicle. I may consider trade in for a Honda Accord or something .... THE BOTTOM LINE IS: DO NOT BUY A CAMRY UNLESS TOYOTA COMES UP WITH THE PERMANENT FIX !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
