My car had a recall in 2014 for the torque converter per Toyota. My car was taken in for the recall at which a software update was performed per Freedom Toyota. Recently in June i went to pull out into traffic and my car began to shudder at about 25 mph. Which could have caused a major accident. I contacted toyota dealership which is now Heritage toyota and they scheduled a diagnostic test. Which they charged me $99 for. Called me to tell me the torque converter had gone out and it would be $2246 to repair eventhough i told them this was a previous recall?? On all things i have researched they are to cover repairs as long as car is under 100,000 miles or 10years old. I purchased this car brand new in January of 2013.

The contact owns a 2012 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that when the accelerator pedal was depressed the vehicle would shudder. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times and the failure was not diagnosed correctly. The contact then took the vehicle to Putnam Toyota (50 California Dr. Burlingame, CA 94010) where the failure was diagnosed as the torque converter. The contact stated that he was informed by the dealer and the manufacturer that the vehicle was outside of the extended warranty coverage mileage of 150,000. The contact was upset that the vehicle was no longer covered under the torque converter extended warranty since he had taken the vehicle to One Toyota of Oakland several times for the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 91,000.

The car shrudder at 20 miles an hour. I was reading there was a recall for this problem. However I never recieve one. I brought my car brand new 2012 and took it to the dealership for service faithfully since I had it. The dearlship is aware of all recall. The torque converter and softwware problems should have taken care by the service dept. They want to change my transmossion the dealer should eat the cost. 2012 Toyota Camry they told me they are not going to change of fixed the torque converter. I also saw Toyota extended the warranty on this issue to 150,000 miles and my car as $84,000 miles

My 2012 Camry SE 4 cylinder has an issue with its torque converter. My car shudders and has a delay when shifting from 2nd to 3rd. This has been well documented and is known by Toyota. I had my car diagnosed and quoted by Toyota for this issue 17 months ago. I could not afford the $3000 quote at that time. I found out last week that there was an extended warranty for this issue! I call Toyota only to find out that I was 2 months outside of my warranty. I told them I had the car diagnosed and quoted well before the warranty date, but was not informed of the warranty or prevalent issue with this years torque converter. If I had known this I would have had them replace this for free, but I was not informed at that time. I have since contacted Toyota corporate and they have confirmed the issue, but they stated even though it was diagnosed within the warranty time frame and the dealership failed to let me know this was covered, they would do nothing for me. I am very upset this is happening, and very upset that this know issue you see over 50 complaints about on this site, is only remedied with an extended warranty and not a recall. I am being wronged by Toyota and no one will help me, or all of us 2012 Camry owners who where effected by this issue!

As I am pulling off, the car hesitates when I get to about 20 mph. Toyota told me it is the torque converter but there isn't a recall for it. I was told that there was something in place to have it fixed but that it had expired in October 2020. I did not start having issue until the end of November 2020 and never received any type of letter or notice that this would be an issue I needed to get taken care of by October 2020. I don't have $1900+ just laying around. We are in the middle of a pandemic at that. I need this taken care especially since this is beyond my control and Toyota knows about this issue.

2012 Toyota U760E transmission shudder car: 2012 Toyota Camry le, 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine, U760E six-speed automatic transmission. Mileage: 95,850 age: 8.5 years (I bought it new in 2012) problem: 2012 Toyota Camry transmission shudder (diagnosed at principle Toyota by the dealers service department)(they also ran a glycol test which was negative). Solutions: Torque converter replacement at Toyota service department $2310.25 includes tax (warranty 1yr 12K miles). Transmission replacement (remanufactured) at Toyota service department $7116.09 includes tax (warranty 1yr 12K miles). Rebuild existing transmission at local transmission shop $3800 (only called on phone and got approximate estimate) includes tax (warranty 2yr 24K miles). How Toyota is getting around replacing the torque converter: Toyota admits there is a problem with the transmission by issuing in October 2014 limited service campaign E03 to only update the software. Then the next month in November 2014 start mailing letters to the customer saying we have just issued warranty enhancement notification - ZE5 to do three things, put in a new torque converter, additional transmission pan magnets, and update the software. This puts both lsc E03 and wen ZE5 in play at the same time for the same transmission issue. I received my letter for wen ZE5 in the mail. I call and set up an appointment for wen ZE5 and in good faith walk into my local Toyota service department principal Toyota memphis, tn in March of 2015 with my wen ZE5 letter in my hand and say I am here to get wen ZE5 taken care of. In good faith I pick up my car thinking that wen ZE5 has been taken care of. However, it turns out that what was done was lsc E03 and not wen ZE5(replace torque converter). Recent service report attached: Car now needs new transmission.
