RAV4 ES V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 37,000 miles

01/27/2015; sitting on our Driveway in front of the house getting into the vehicle to go to Church. This is my wife's car, She has owned and driven some 27 family vehicles since we have been married. She has had 2 accidents on ice in 49 years since she began driving, Neither were life threatening. The weather was warm, clear, I sat down in the passenger seat and buckled up, she was already in the car and ready to go. She started the vehicle, and the acceleration went through the roof. I told her to get her foot off the accelerator she yelled at me that she was no where near it, I yelled back at her to pull the floor mat /carpet back it was not in the way the car kept accelerating, fortunately she had it in park and she turned it off. We waited for 2-3 minutes she depressed the accelerator pedal once and took her foot off and started the car, problem went away. This is an EMC/ ETC issue without a doubt. This is the problem which arose in early 2008 and has been so widely talked about. This vehicle shows no previous issues related to any repairs for this problem or that it was ever listed as having this issue. The problem has occurred now 4 times, once with me in the car. The others were at her office parking garage, and twice while she was stopped at a stop sign in our neighborhood. I will pursue this till I get some response from Toyota. She is a good driver and has a logical understanding of how to handle a car in just about any situation, so I am not necessarily concerned about her using the car at this moment. My greatest concern is that Toyota will try to downplay the event/incident and it will try to evade the issues, and we will not get some kind of investigation or resolution in a timely manner.

RAV4 ES V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 37,000 miles

I have entered 3 other complaints regarding this incident and the acceleration problem ( accelerator sticking) and the details about what we experienced, all in a mater of 2 months. This is the same problem that was so highly talked about in early 2008 regarding the excessive acceleration problems with some Toyotas.

RAV4 ES V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 37,000 miles

This is the 3rd occurance of this type of failure of the excess acceleration or high sped runaway ... fortunately they vehicle was stopped or in park when the problem occurred. I have placed 3 other incident reports making 4 total for this vehicle. This is the same issue which has been so highly talked about in the recall world starting in early 2008.

RAV4 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 53,000 miles

My 2009 RAV 4 suddenly accelerated while idling. It opened to full throttle for 2-3 seconds while idling - luckily the gear shift was in the Park position. The floor mat was DEFINITELY NOT involved. The only recall for this problem is replacing the floor mat - which was done by the previous owner. As I already stated, the floor mat was NOT the cause of the sudden acceleration - it was flat against the floor and nowhere near the accelerator pedal.

TOYOTA SAYS IT IS FINE. FOR ME TO GO AHEAD AND DRIVE IT, HOW CRAZY IS THIS. I COULD KILL SOMEONE. THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE, AND THEY EXPECT ME TO PUT MY GRANDCHILDREN IN IT.
