Sienna CE V6

Driver side power steering fluid leak. Toyota dealership determined leak required power steering rack replacement, plus fluid and 4 wheel alignment. Total cost $1397.87, plus tax. Not covered by a recall, or in my case. a warranty.

Appears this is a common problem and Toyota even issued a Service Bulletin (TSB-0097-12) for model years 2004-2010 (NHTSA ID Number: 10045349). Bulletin is titled: TOYOTA: INFORMATION BEING PROVIDED REGARDING REPAIR PROCEDURE TO CORRECT OIL LEAKAGE FROM BOOTS OF STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY.

Went to a local dealer for regular oil change and fix under recall and found out that there is a power steering fluid leak from the power steering rack. It would cost around $1400 to fix it as they will have to take out the entire rack system and replace it and do alignment. Searched on the web and found this is a very common problem with Toyota Siennas at relatively low mileage. Surprised that Toyota has not recall on this and charges a $$$ for this fix. I just bought a Camry and got my sister to buy one too. Would have made a different choice had I known about these kind of common problems in Toyota.
