Rear differential oil leak. There had been a recall in the 2016 Toyota Tacoma but my 2006 has the same problem starting years ago. I did not know it was leaking until I took it to the dealership.

Excessive corrosion and rusted through frame that is unable to support weight of vehicle. Had a brake line bust due to being rusted or corroded out. Also suspension shows excessive rust and corrosion. Cooling lines corroded. Power steering lines corroded. Transmission lines corroded. Any metal line is that's attached to this vehicle are corroded. And all brackets and hardware attached to frame and even the metal pulleys all excessively corroded.

When the vehicle had around 112,000 miles on it the check engine light came on and it experienced irregularities with regard to shifting. The code was ran and the shift solenoid was the issue. A new transmission was recommended. We were not informed of this when we purchased the vehicle second hand. Approximately a year later the same thing happened with the shifting and the check engine light coming on. Unfortunately by the time we took it to a certified Toyota dealer the light was off and it was running smoothly. The inconsistency of the issue is frustrating because we don't know the actual issue and if the vehicle can be trusted. The certified dealer recommends a costly transmission replacement without being able to verify the issue.

The dealer replaced the tires, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

I took my 2006 Toyota Tacoma to boch Toyota as part of Toyota service campaign regarding frame recall back in Dec of 2015. I waited 5 months to get my truck back to get it back in deplorable conditions. Truck was not repaired satisfactorily and I am still having issues with it. I have made several complaints to Toyota and both Toyota to no avail. Truck barely running.

I took my truck to malloy Toyota for frame inspection regarding the limited service campaign eod- frame rust recall. Dealer informed me there was rust, but no perforations. They recommended coating the frame with compounds. I feel that my truck may not have perforations, but it is just a matter of time before the frame becomes perforated, resulting in a dangerous / unsafe vehicle. Putting the compunds on the frame is a quick band-aid and does not fix the problem. This frame will become unsafe, it is just a matter of time. This will not only potentially jeopardize the safety of my family / occupants in the vehicle, but also the others that share the road with my truck.

We have had several issues with our 2006 Toyota Tacoma which has 125331 miles. On May 11, 2015, we brought the truck into mountain states Toyota, for the repair of the rear drive shaft which had failed. I was experiencing a vibration even when driving at very low speeds that continued to get worse. I have enclosed the paperwork describing the repair, which I believe was tied to a recall, and another repair. October 19, 2012, the right rear leaf spring cracked and needed repair, mileage was 92303. At the time we did not know anything about the recall for the leaf springs, and the repair for the right had cost us $1408.11. The repair shop also noticed at the time that the left rear leaf spring was also faulty and needed to be repaired, that was repaired a few days later 10/23/2012 the cost $1407.61. At the time we had driven around not knowing what the vibration was only that the vehicle was very difficult to drive. The faulty leaf springs we were told at a later date by the Toyota dealer may have played a factor in the above repair. They could not guarantee that it had not been caused by the faulty leaf spring. On October 27, 2006 the head gasket needed to be repaired, the mileage at this time was 90102. The cost of the repair was $2866.18. We also had an issue with the brakes just going on the vehicle while my son was driving the vehicle, in October. He luckily was able to gear down using the transmission to slow the vehicle down. When it was towed to mountain states Toyota, which is where he had had the brake fluid replaced a few months prior, paid in full for all repairs at the time. So I feel this issue was probably the fault of mountain states Toyota.

Due to the rusted frame issues that I reported to Toyota on 04/16/2014 (muller Toyota and Toyota corporate) my clutch pedal stuck to the floor when crossing an intersection almost causing a crash when the rusted clutch slave cylinder stuck. There are big rust holes in the frame and Toyota freely admits that they are defective frames, but won't have a recall on those model Tacoma until enough people complain or get injured or killed ! something should be done about these defective frames that rust from the inside out.

I was slowly entering a parking space. I pressed the brake pedal and the engine speed increased to maximum RPM. I jammed the emergency brake and threw the transmission into "park." A great cloud of blue smoke issued forth from the spinning tires. This never happened before and it's definitely a problem with the truck and not my foot! several years ago, as a pedestrian, I saw the exact same thing happen to a Jeep Cherokee at a stop sign.

December 2006 truck parked with emergency brake off and would not move below freezing temperature. All four wheels locked up. Towed to dealer, after numerous attempts to fix he stated the wheel bearing were leaking grease and freezing up so truck would not move. Truck operates good all year till it gets below freezing and wheels lock up. Dealer does not know the problem, but only happens when parked and below freezing. December 10 2012 rear wheels lock up while driving in below freezing causing truck to slide and miss two on coming cars, truck ends up in ditch. Would sell vehicle but afraid anyone driving it in cold weather would be stranded or in a fatal wreck. Are other trucks having same issue as I hunt and go back 30 miles into the woods and if freezes I would be stranded.

For at least 2 mos previous I would hear a chirping noise from the engine compartment. It would get louder as you accelerated & seamed more noticeable in warmer weather. Took vehicle in to dhc torrance Toyota & said it was my idler bearings. I thought that was odd since the truck only has 37400 miles. It cost me over $800.

Noticed rust on the frame of the vehicle with heavier amounts near/on weld points, & bolt points. Rust is accumulating on the steering tie rods. Heavy rust on rear differential and various steering component parts. I consider the amount of rust on the frame and the above mentioned components a manufacturer's defect. If any of the components fail while I am driving I could crash and injure, or kill another motorist/myself. I spoke with Toyota of sd service rep who told me I should contact Toyota. I have a 100,000/10yr extended service plan and want this resolved prior to the time frame running out.

2006 Toyota Tacoma with automatic transmission. Same complaint as others. Low end rumbling sound and vibration in front end between 55 and 65 mph. Front differential bearings, where front axles enter the differential case, have excessive play (slop) in the bearings. Dealer refuses to repair the bearings even though it is still under warranty. I have video taped the condition as well as the mileage and will keep records of my multiple visits to the dealer. I have also found other used Tacoma trucks on dealer lots with as little as 20,000 miles that have this same problem. I believe Toyota engineered these differentials to last only 60,000 mi and most owners may not notice the problem until warranty is over. My 1992 Toyota pickup 4X4 with 238,000 miles has less bearing slop in it than the '06.

While driving on I-95 South of jacksonville Florida in my 2006 Toyota Tacoma I was forced to accelerate rapidly to avoid an accident. The vehicle kept accelerating until I doing almost a 100 mph weaving through traffic until I could get into the right hand lane and shut the engine off. Once stopped the first thing I checked was the floor mat as I had a problem with previous vehicle causing the accelerator to stick but the floor mat was no where near the accelerator pedal. I restarted the vehicle but it just revved wide open so I turned it back off and called arlington Toyota. I was advised to call a wrecker as they said they had not experienced this issue before. They had it for three days but could not find any problems as it run perfectly when off loaded off the wrecker. I was advised to install mat retaining pins. Then I received a recall for the floor mats and when I took it to the dealer for recall I was advised to removed the drivers side floormat. I was told nothing more that Toyota as to what was being attempted to correct the issue. Is that a viable recall? I know for a fact it was not the floor mat that caused the issue but was advised by Toyota there was no documented instances of unexplained acceleration with Tacoma's. my vehicle is a 2006 Tacoma prerunner access cab, V6, automatic transmission with towing package. I really thought that Toyota would rapidly get fix in place but that has not been the case and for this reason I am submitting this complaint.

I was stopped at a stop light for 30 seconds. My right foot was on the brake. The engine RPM suddenly jumped and my truck surged ahead 8 feet. The only reason it stopped going forward is because the RPM dropped to normal. My right foot never left the brake pedal. This only happened once. I am first writing now because I heard today that the NHTSA has received hundreds of complaints for the 2006-2007 Toyota Tacoma regarding this problem. This was not carpet mat related.

On our 2006 Toyota Tacoma 4-cylinder 5-speed manual transmission, which we bought new, when you lift off the gas and press in the clutch to shift, the engine RPM's do not drop as they should, they remain high and even increase. This has been the case since it was almost new. Normally when you shift the RPM should drop between shifts - instead the revs stay constant or increase between shifts. This is not a problem with "unintended acceleration", but rather the throttle getting "hung" when in neutral between shifts. Even tapping on the gas pedal does not cause the revs to drop, they stay high or increase. I originally thought it was a Toyota "feature" to smooth out shifts, but after all the press, I have come to think it is a sticky throttle issue, whether due to mechanical issues (sticky cable, sticky throttle linkage) or electronic issues. I contacted Toyota online several months ago, got a confirmation that they had received the complaint, but that is the last I have heard. I put in a required month/year/date, but really it is an ongoing problem since the car was almost new.

There was no events leading up, it just started one day. You put the brake on and all of a sudden the truck would try to leap forward with a loud thunk. The longer you hold the brake the louder the sound would be. Now when you let up on the brake, it does it. Not when holding the brake down. When you let up on the brake, it thunks hard and loud forward.
