Truck had to be abandoned after I attempted to start it and the brake pedal was stiff and the ignition would not allow starter to function. Dashboard message indicated a brake problem with transmission interlock. The next day, after viewing a U-Tube video on the problem (same make/model/year) I held the starter button in for 12-15 seconds with no foot on the brake. The engine started but the transmission remained locked in Park. Tow truck operator was able to release the shifter using an access port and screwdriver and found that he could drive it up onto the inclined platform. Once in place on the platform he shifted to Park and found it was again locked. This issue disabled the truck in a traffic area where it could not be started or shifted into Neutral to move it...a dangerous situation.

Vehicle is designed in such a way as to allow moisture accumulating in drivers side floor mat and carpeting to wick upward and be deposited on the primary vehicle wiring harness located in the drivers side kick panel. The moisture collected travels down into the backside of the various female connectors and corrodes the conductors and receptacles that result in short circuits between the various vehicle components including the ignition, engine shutoff, temperature sensors, Antilock Breaking, Blind Spot Monitoring, Fuel Gauge, Forward Vehicle Lighting (high and low beam), Security, Traction Control and other critical vehicle systems. On February 5th, 2023 I returned to my vehicle to find the security alarm sounding in the parking lot of a local business, both the keyless entry system and key-fob were unresponsive and would neither silence the alarm or unlock the vehicle. After manually unlocking the door handle the alarm ceased, the vehicle started as normal and then began indicating a failure of the BSM system, while underway the ABS indicated it had also failed and upon arrival at our destination the engine would not turn off even with the emergency shutdown routine prescribed for unintended acceleration cases. In addition, the high beams would be triggered by unrelated button operation occasionally fail to turn off, the fuel gauge, temperature readouts and climate control provided unintelligible values. The vehicle was returned to to dealership where it was determined that water from the floormats was able to contaminate and cause systemwide failure. The repair was to replace the entire wire harness which would not be covered by warranty. On 3/15/2023 I reached out to Toyota Headquarters' Customer Engagement team and was advised that Toyota was aware of the problem and had no interest or obligation in rectifying the situation, regardless of my concerns that this presented a clear safety hazard to both operators and the general public.

Knocking noise from vacuum pump after engine is warm. Base on the NHTSA id 10133645 - Toyota technical service bulleting T-sb-0316-17. Because of the safety hazard involve in the probably defective part, and because of my medical condition at the time of the Toyota service bulleting I could not take the vehicle for the technical service bulleting to de Toyota dealer until 11/18/2019 ( after the applicable warranty of 36 months or 36,000 miles - customer number 192461 at adriel auto in rio grande puerto rico. There the vehicle was inspected by a technician # 443901. At the moment of the inspection the technician did not found the condition that I was concern about. I was told that that knocking sound from the vacuum pump was normal. That I should not to be worry about it. Because of my medical condition and treatment. I was not able to follow up my complaint at Toyota de puerto rico. Now that I am feeling a little bit better I am reporting this to you with the hope that a solution be found. I have never own a vehicle from any manufacturer that had such a knocking sound from the vacuum pump. I am concern about my safety and the safety of others if my brake system fails and someone gets injure or kill. It is my perception that the knocking noise from the vacuum pump is a safety hazard and that Toyota corporation must replace the defective part. My vehicle have only 10,000 miles because of my illness and also because I do not feel safe driving it. I know I am a bit late to report this condition on my vehicle and that the warranty period have expire. But the problem persist, as a remedy I am requesting that all of the Toyota vehicles that present this knocking noise from vacuum pump should be recall an repair under an extended warranty. Thank you

Knocking noise from vac pump. Had the tech not noticed this when we had the truck serviced for another reason, the vac pump could have failed while driving down the road, causing a potential fatal accident. Toyota was aware of the potential vac pump failure why did they not issue a recall on their own.

'takita recall ' several times I have taken my pickup to the dealer for a cling, spring sound when you are apply brakes. And the engine has loud ticking sound.the first time they said it was how the vehicle was made. There is a noise coming from the front end especially when you are on a bad road disclose they cant hear anything. Took it back again they said they can't find nothing even to the brake noise that they said was a part of how the vehicle was made. They take your vehicle have it for two days then pretend to work on it then give it back to you and never find anything. Then you the customer have to experience these annoying unsafe experiences. You get so discouraged because they never can find anything and when they do is how the vehicle is made then by the time you keep going back and with the same respond the warranty is close to end. Last time I took the pickup in was January 28,2019 and they returned it on the 30th with no document to what they did.

While driving straight on a busy three-lane city street, while the vehicle was in motion, I heard a "beep" sound, "brake override malfunction" appeared of my dashboard display, I lost the ability to accelerate, and the engine came to a slow idle. Since I did not have the ability to accelerate, I could only coast to the right hand side of the street. Since there was no shoulder lane on this street, my vehicle came to a stop in the right hand lane, blocking the lane of traffic for some time until two gentlemen came to assist me with pushing my vehicle out of danger. Repair took 10 business days since they did not know how to repair the vehicle initially (repair invoice will be provided upon request). Two days after I picked up my truck from the dealership, the battery died in a parking lot. I'm not sure if the battery defect is related to the "brake override malfunction".

The breaks are not effective. The truck slides and it doesn't break effectiveness. Feels like the tires are blocked out and the car slides on the road without stopping the truck. This happens every time a quick break is needed or emergency happens. I have being lucky of keeping enough distance to avoid accidents. A recall of the break system is needed asap. More than 5 times I have had experienced this issue. In the beginning I thought it was me adjusting to a new truck, but this is a serious safety issue.

After driving 10 miles from a cold start the vehicles brakes will start applying braking power. Vehicle becomes noticeably labored and cannot engage higher gears. Vehicle was serviced multiple times for this issue. Dealership reported that factory service representative feels that vehicle is working as designed. On 2016-03-18 the brakes where engaging while driving. The brakes became overheated and glowing red to the point where other motorists tried to warn me that my truck is on fire. I pulled over and found brake rotors to be hot enough to ignite paper and pine needles. After two hours of waiting the brakes cooled and I drove it home. The following morning I drove the vehicle again. The vehicle exhibited the same symptoms after 15 miles. Upon stopping the front rotors were found to be extremely hot. The rear drums were also observed to be hot enough to bubble and melt their protective painted finish. The smell of overheated brakes and rubber was also observed. Tire pressure had also risen several degrees. Vehicle is being towed in for the fifth service incident since acquisition on 2015-12-22. Vehicle odometer shows mileage is under 5,000. Not certain that odometer is accurate and suspect that vehicle was in service prior to acquisition.

First incident occured while vehicle was stuck in light snow and ice condition. 4-wheel drive system did not appear to be operating properly. Engaged new "crawl-control" system per owner's manual instructions. During use of crawl-control the motor RPM's exceeded 5,500; immediately pressed engine-stop button and applied brakes. Incident resulted in catastrophic damage of front drive-line. Damage included front drive-shaft failure; dealer indicated "drive-line" replaced. Significant damage to components adjacent to front drive-shaft. Vehicle repaired under warranty. Two days after service random brake lock-up occurs while driving; vehicle skids out of control. No malfunction indicators showing. ABS also does not activate during panic stop brake application. Brake lockup experienced in winter conditions at high elevation nearly causing potentially fatal accident (1,000ft drop from road to canyon bottom, no guard-rails). While driving at 30mph the rear end of the truck begins to slide sideways. Upon coming to a stop it is discovered that the vehicle will not drive forward. Engaged 4-wheel drive and vehicle struggled to move. Engaged differential lock and drove backwards for 80ft. Wheels appear to become un-locked. Drive forward for another 500 yards and same situation occurs.

On 11/23/15 I was able to take possession of the vehicle. On 11/24/15 I got into the vehicle to crank it up when the vehicle's warning lights of brake, ABS warning to check the anti'lock brake system and check brake system and the antiskid/traction lights came on at approximate 110 miles. I immediately called the dealership and was told that it would not hurt the vehicle to drive it and that it was safe. I was told that it was probably just a fuse by a salesperson, who allegedly talked to one of the master technicians about the situation. On 11/30/15 I also reported that the cruise control was also not working to the service department when I arrive at the dealership. The vehicle was diagnosed with a bad left rear speed sensor at 185 miles and again that the vehicle was safe to drive. On 12/04/15 at 334 miles the sensor was replaced. As I was going home on the interstate highway and less than 10 miles away, the same lights and warning readouts came back on. I immediately turned the vehicle around and proceeded back to the dealership. On my way back to the dealership while slowing down, a loud metallic banging/rattle could be heard coming from the rear end. When I got back to the dealership, I explained the same symptoms happened again as before and that now clanging/rattle in the rear end had developed to the service manager. At approximately 4:00P.M., I received a call from the service department and was told that a rear wheel bearing was not installed correctly from the factory, that it had done some damage and that the parts were ordered. I expressed my concerns about possible other damage such as the brakes, tire, sensors or the rear housing and safety of the vehicle.
