Beetle GLS 2.0L 4c

  • Automatic transmission
  • 240,000 miles

I'm going probably 45mph and all of a sudden the car acts like it shifted into neutral, but the engine stayed at 5 or 6000 rpms, then went back into gear and kept doing that until I finally came to a stop (without touching the brakes). It got worse over about 4 months. During that time I've flushed the transmission and changed the tranny filter 4 times, changed all the solenoids and wire harness in the valve body with no luck.

Car will not go into reverse. Stuck in limp mode. I've erased the codes 3 times and now the code po722 comes up. That's for the transmission output sensor. Not sure if it's worth changing the sensor or just replacing the transmission all together since reverse doesn't work.

Beetle 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 90,000 miles

Loving my 40 mpg VW turbo diesel--then the transmission slipped going into reverse. Eventually wouldn't move the vehicle backward at all. Had to park way out in a parking lot so I could pull out going forward or push it back by hand. Supposedly has a maintenance free transmission. VW dealer said it would require a new tranny, but my clever euro mechanic flushed the trans and got alot of gunk out of it. Worked better but not great, but his plan was to flush it again after two months. I've had it back now for more than a month and it's working great. I hear VW now suggests maintaining--hmm.
