: the contact stated while parked, the fuel tank filler neck was observed to be leaking under the back seat. Also, a strong odor of gasoline was coming from the backseat. It was also observed that the vehicle consumed a great deal of gas. Secondly, there was a slash in the rear tire on the passenger side due to debris and abrasion with the fuel tank. There were no warning signals prior to the incident. The vehicle was taken to a service dealer, who determined that there was a fuel leak on the tank top nipple. The fuel tank was replaced and the tire was realigned. The manufacturer was notified and refused to acknowledge that the VIN # was not part of the NHTSA recall #02V026000. Reimbursement was also denied.

While driving, the rear passenger side tire failed and damaged the fuel filler neck causing a fuel leak. Consumer believes this failure is very similar to the failures described in ODI-influenced recall 02V026000 for 2000 model year vehicles. A fire could have resulted if an ignition source were present.
