Tiguan S 2.0L

I will never buy a VW car ever again!!! VW quality has become unreliable. I've had a Passat and now a Tiguan and both have given me annoying faults and expensive repairs. :(

Tiguan SEL 4motion 2.0L Tsi

  • Automatic transmission
  • 65,000 miles

Started as a roar or growl under my foot at low speeds from the left front wheel area. Then on a 1.5 hour drive the power steering light came on and the power steering failed to engage after stopping for gas. The steering reset after about a 10 min cool down and we got back home without incident. The Tiguan now needs this cool down after every 1 hr + trip. My VW service center is aware of the problem and says it will cost more than the car is worth to repair (undiagnosed est is $3000 and that's on the low end) 09 Tiguan's are rated 1 out of 5 on a well respected consumer reporting web page, heed their ratings!

Tiguan 2L

I've had problems with this car for years even when it the factory warranty was still in place! So far the fuel injectors have been fixed. Oil leak had to be fixed, build up in the engine from gas had to be fixed with walnut shells! What the hell!? Now after all that, the steering red light is on and I have to be a She-Hulk just to drive this car!!! It is currently in the vw dealership shop today! How much more do I need to spend on this car? I'm not able to buy a new car due to putting a child in college! Anyways who wants to spend all of their earnings on owning a brand new car and fixing an old one?? I'm stuck! Either buy a new car or fix old car! With VW, you have to be a billionaire in order to own these cars. I wish there was a recall issued for this steering crap!!!

Update from Sep 14, 2017: I hate this car! The power steering rack has gone out which cost $1870! I'll never buy a vw EVER again! Why do cars have to be so damn high tech? Whatever happened to the old fashioned put power steering fluid into the stupid car!

Just recently the intake manifold went out! Thank goodness THAT was covered under warranty! Right before that it was the fuel injectors! And before that an oil leak and before that the car was recalled for lighting problems. Before that the air went out after having it for 3 years. Ignition coil failure. No turbo action after approximately 70000. I realize that I've had this car for 7 years but I can't afford to pay a car note. I guess I will be forced to at this point! Every 4-6 months there's a new major problem that cost 700 and up with this car! I can't afford to pay for this fix OR buy a new car! Help!

Tiguan ES V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50,000 miles

drove to work, parked my car and left it parked until the end of the workday. It was a very hot day, about 90 degrees. When I turned on my car a red steering wheel symbol appeared on the dashboard and made a beeping sound. I was alarmed and concerned as to why this is happening because the steering wheel locked and It got very hard. I turned off my car and turned It back on 3 times and it did the same thing, after the 4th time the symbol did not appear steering wheel was not locked but I noticed that the steering wheel shakes from side to side and I have to keep a grip on the steering wheel so my car wont go into the other lane. This is a serious problem its nearly impossible for me to move the wheel when it locks. I'm glad it didn't happen while I'm driving. Need this corrected ASAP and it needs to be recalled, very dangerous!!

Can be very dangerous if I were on freeway. Lucky for me it happened as I was driving slowly on a side street. These problems should NOT happen when we pay all that money for these cars! Get the bugs out before you sell the product!
