front brake shimmy at highway speed when applying brakes
During my first service inspection on October 7, 2016 I reported a brake vibration to the service department when applying the brakes on my vehicle at highway speed (100 KPH / 62 MPH).
The car was only showing 9725km (6042 Miles) at the time and was exactly 10 months old. The car dealer service department indicated that the front disc were "spotted or wrapped " and this was the problem creating the vibration. At the beginning they thought the car had sit at the dealer for an extended period of time before I took delivery of it. I told them that actually the car was ordered directly from VW Canada (Its a fleet car) and delivered to the dealer, the car was subsequently delivered to me the same week. (I assume it may have sat at the Halifax port of entry)
I contacted VW Canada customer service and advised them of the problem , they proceeded to tell me that brakes were covered only for the first 6 months or 10,000Km. I told them that although I had past the initial 6 month coverage period (First service is called at 15,000km / 10,000Miles), the car had less than 10,000km / 6,000Miles . The customer service agent advised me that he would take it up with VW Canada management to see what could be done.
I just got word that they were sticking to their original decision / policy of not covering the repair , most likely around $500.00. I would have liked to have VW Canada at least pay for the parts and I would have paid for the labor which may represent 50% of the total repair cost. This is my second VW Tiguan which I drove for close to 60,000km (38,000 miles) with the same brake disc rotors and pads, so its not a driver issue, but most likely a bad set of disc rotors on this car and VW does not want to "belly up to the bill". Update from Oct 21, 2016: Here is a copy of the correspondence from VW Canada. Please note that contrary to what I was told the first time, it seems that brakes on VW products are covered for 12 months / 20,00 KM / 12,000 Miles
