The 2002 Volvo S60 had sat outside during the duration of a very hot day. While waiting stopped at the parking lot stop sign about to enter road traffic a sound resembling an uncoiling spring was detected and the seat belt tension let go and the belt went slack onto my lap. There car was not in motion while this event occurred.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis where it was stated to the contact that the seat belt assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 106,000. The VIN was not available.
