— The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened an investigation into model year 2011-2012 Jeep Patriot vehicles after complaints of stalling engines.

About 80 percent of the incidents occurred at speeds of 65 miles per hour or more. All drivers reported their Patriot could not be immediately restarted.  One complaint alleged the engine stall resulted in a crash and injury.

"I have been back and forth to the dealer. They say there is no problem,” wrote Timothy, of Tacoma, Washington.  “Chrysler says its coil packs they changed them all. Still happens.  The dealer has the car and is driving it.  Still no solution.”

The feds believe this is an increasing trend because all but three complaints were filed within the past six months.  The investigation will try to determine what is causing the problem and if a recall should be ordered.
