— Hyundai is recalling 43,000 cars because the brake lights can fail and leave drivers traveling behind you clueless to when you might stop. Hyundai says the recalled cars are the 2009-2011 Hyundai Genesis and the 2011 Hyundai Equus.

The defect was discovered after reviewing owner questionnaires and early warning reports submitted by Hyundai. Forty-one reports indicated the brake lights went out without warning and could be fixed by replacing a circuit diode.

While losing the brake lights can be a dangerous highway adventure, Hyundai says it is unaware of any accidents or injuries related to the faulty brake lights.

Hyundai says the 2009-2011 Hyundai Genesis vehicles were manufactured April 30, 2008, to November 21, 2010, and the 2011 Hyundai Equus cars were built July 31, 2010, to November 21, 2010.

Hyundai hasn't said when the recall will begin. Dealers will need to make repairs to the brake light switch circuit to keep the lights on.

Owners of the recalled 2009-2011 Hyundai Genesis and the 2011 Hyundai Equus can contact Hyundai at 714-865-3920 and reference recall number 125.
