— Hyundai is recalling 137,500 model year 2011-2014 Hyundai Tucson crossovers because the air bag could fall out of the steering wheel.

Hyundai learned of the problem in December, 2013, when engineers noticed about 100 claims of “labor only” (no parts), low cost (under $50) warranty claims where the bolts securing the air bag module to the steering wheel weren't torqued to factory specifications.

The affected Tucsons were manufactured January 3, 2011, through December 23, 2013, and Hyundai says the problem typically occurs on cars that have been in service for about 13 months.

A Holbrook, N.Y., driver of a 2012 Hyundai Tucson told CarComplaints.com the air bag completely popped out of the steering wheel.

"Driving my car the unit holding airbag popped out of steering wheel, because this unit has the horn attached only the horn electric wire kept the unit from landing on me."

The recall is expected to begin by the end of June, 2014. Hyundai dealers will inspect and tighten the bolts that secure the driver's air bag assembly.

Tucson owners can contact Hyundai at 800-633-5151 and refer to recall number 118.
