— BMW is recalling 38 MINI Cooper cars to fix seat cushion problems that occurred during earlier service appointments.
The recalled cars include the 2014-2015 MINI Cooper Hardtop 2-door, 2014-2015 MINI Cooper S Hardtop 2-door, 2015 MINI Cooper Hardtop 4-door and the 2015 MINI Cooper S Hardtop 4-door.
MINI says the cars received replacement front passenger seat cushions during previous service visits. Those cushions have sensors that may have been incorrectly calibrated, sensors that affect the occupant classification system used for the airbags.
The bad sensors could cause the airbags to activate or deactivate based on incorrect readings from the occupant classification system.
MINI says the recalled 2014-2015 MINI Cooper Hardtop 2-door cars were manufactured February 25, 2014, to May 16, 2015, the 2014-2015 MINI Cooper S Hardtop 2-doors were built March 28, 2014, to May 9, 2015, the 2015 MINI Cooper Hardtop 4-door vehicles were manufactured October 17, 2014, to June 2, 2015, and the 2015 MINI Cooper S Hardtop 4-door cars were manufactured November 24, 2014, to June 11, 2015.
The MINI Cooper recall should begin by the end of 2015, when dealers will replace the front passenger seat cushions.
