Nissan Recalls Altima, Maxima and Rogue For Airbag Problems

— Nissan is recalling about 760 cars and SUVs because the front passenger airbags may not deploy correctly.

Nissan says 2013-2015 Altima, 2015-2016 Rogue and 2016 Maxima vehicles have problems that can cause the passenger occupant systems to misread if adult or child occupants are in the passenger seats.

Nissan received a dealer report in August 2016 about the dealer having trouble reprogramming an occupant classification system electronic control unit, causing Nissan to open an internal investigation. Nissan collected the control unit from the dealer and shipped the unit to the supplier for testing.

The supplier found the wrong electronic control unit had been installed onto the seat assembly, a problem tracked to an error that caused an improperly labeled box.

Nissan and the supplier looked over 3.5 million records to find any affected vehicles even though it's possible there was only one box with an incorrect label.

The recalled 2013-2015 Altimas were built January 3, 2013, to July 29, 2013, the 2015-2016 Rogue SUVs were manufactured October 14, 2014, to August 12, 2016, and the 2016 Maxima cars were built June 4, 2015, to August 19, 2015.

The recall should begin February 12, 2017. Nissan dealers will replace the electronic control units and update the occupant classification system software.

Owners of the recalled Nissan Altima, Rogue and Maxima vehicles may contact the automaker at 800-647-7261.
