— Toyota is recalling 12 cars to fix front passenger knee airbag assemblies that may fail to protect passengers in a crash.

The automaker says four 2016 Toyota Avalon and eight 2017 Toyota Camry cars may have been built with the wrong fasteners used to install the passenger knee assemblies.

Toyota didn't say much about the recall and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration hasn't released information, but Toyota did say dealers will need to inspect the Avalon and Camry cars.

If the wrong fasteners were used, dealers will install new bolts and replace the mounting brackets for the knee airbag assemblies.

Toyota will contact owners in December, but if you believe you own one of the 12 cars and have questions, call Toyota customer service at 800-331-4331. has owner-reported complaints about the Toyota Avalon and Toyota Camry.
