Blank Instrument Clusters Cause Jaguar Land Rover Recall

— Jaguar Land Rover is recalling about 29,000 vehicles with instrument clusters that can go blank, come back on and go blank again.

Recalled are the 2017 Land Rover Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, 2017-2018 Jaguar XF and F-Pace, and the 2016-2017 Jaguar XJ and 2018 Jaguar XE.

Jaguar Land Rover opened an internal investigation in October after reports of instrument clusters going blank while driving 2017 Range Rovers and Range Rover Sports. The instruments clusters were going out and then coming back on after various periods of time.

Jaguar Land Rover and the supplier performed tests and found the voltage to circuits could become unstable during periods of high temperatures. This causes software to detect faults and then resets the instrument clusters. The instrument panels go blank during the resetting procedure.

Engineers determined the cluster goes blank for at least seven seconds and although a driver won't lose vehicle function, the blank instrument cluster won't show vehicle speed and other indicators of how the vehicle is functioning.

Jaguar Land Rover says no crashes or injuries have been reported related to blank instrument clusters.

The recall should begin December 19, 2017, when dealers will update the software.

Owners of the 2017 Land Rover Range Rover and Range Rover Sport may call the automaker at 800-637-6837. Land Rover's number for this recall is N124.

If you own a 2017-2018 Jaguar XF or F-Pace, 2016-2017 Jaguar XJ or 2018 Jaguar XE and want to learn more, call 800-452-4827 and ask about recall number H056.
