— Ford is recalling about 6,000 model year 2017 Ford Edge, Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles to fix problems with the torque converters.

The automaker says the cars and SUVs are equipped with 2-liter engines and 6F35 transmissions with torque converters that weren't welded correctly.

The torque converters will lose their connections to the engine flexplates if the welded studs detach, causing the vehicles to lose power without any warning to drivers.

However, the brakes, steering, airbags and electrical systems will continue to operate, as well as the ability to park the vehicle.

Ford says no reports have been received about crashes or injuries related to the torque converters, but dealers will still need to replace the converters.

The Ford Edge SUVs were built from April 25, 2017, to June 20, 2017, the Ford Fusion cars were manufactured between May 4, 2017, and June 15, 2017, and the Lincoln MKZ cars were built May 4, 2017, to June 19, 2017.

About 5,210 of the recalled vehicles are in the U.S. and federalized territories, 687 are in Canada and 12 in Mexico.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration hasn't released details of when the Ford recall will begin, but owners with questions should call 866-436-7332 and ask Ford about recall number 17S16.
