— Volkswagen is recalling more than 1,000 model year 2017 Passat cars that can leave drivers with brake problems due to a lack of brake fluid. VW says it learned of the problem in January 2017 during routine testing at the assembly plant.
Engineers traced the brake fluid leaks to end flares of the brake lines that were damaged during manufacturing, causing the seals to be faulty.
A low brake fluid warning light will activate when the fluid reaches a certain level. Ignoring the warning light will mean diminished brake power and longer stopping distances.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration didn't release additional details, but Volkswagen says dealers will replace the affected brake lines once the recall begins in March 2017.
