— Mercedes-Benz is recalling more than 104,600 vehicles because the passenger airbag lights can indicate the airbags are active when they aren't.
The airbag displays may also show the passenger airbags are turned off and on at the same time.

The C-Class and GLC vehicles are equipped with audio head units and automatic child seat recognition, but software errors can cause the airbag systems to display the incorrect status warnings.
Mercedes launched an investigation in February 2018 based on a report that described a vehicle that showed the airbag was both on and off at the same time. Engineers determined signal errors between the head units, seat mats and displays caused the problem. But the primary problem was found in potential timing issues of the head units.
Additional tests conducted by Mercedes and the supplier confirmed the passenger airbag status messages can provide occupants contradictory information, a problem that was repaired during production when the head unit software was changed. That occurred on October 12, 2018, so no vehicles after that date are included in the recall.
The Mercedes-Benz recall is expected to begin January 2, 2019. Dealers will update the audio head unit software, but customers with questions should call 800-367-6372.
