— Takata airbag inflators are still raising hell in the recall arena as Volkswagen says it is recalling more than 51,000 vehicles to replace the driver's frontal airbag inflators.

Recalled are the:

  • 2009-2014 Volkswagen CC
  • 2010-2014 Volkswagen Golf
  • 2010-2011 Volkswagen Eos
  • 2007-2010 Volkswagen Passat

Because the most dangerous Takata airbags contain the explosive chemical ammonium nitrate, VW says the replacement inflators use a different accelerant to deploy the airbags.

The recall should begin March 15, 2018, when the automaker will start notifying owners to bring the vehicles to dealers to have the driver-side frontal airbag inflators replaced.

Volkswagen owners may contact the automaker at 800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 69Q9.
