— A Kia Telluride recall has been ordered for model year 2020 SUVs because the seat belt assemblies may not hold child seat systems in crashes.
Affected are more than 30,000 Tellurides with faulty assemblies in all the seats. The seat belt assemblies were made for the Middle East market and may have been mistakenly installed in all the Telluride seats.
Kia says the driver seat belt assemblies are non-U.S. specification assemblies, and all the other seats aren't equipped with automatic locking retractor (ALR) features and do not comply with federal safety standards.
A specific law says each forward-facing seat, other than the driver's seat, must have a seat belt assembly with a lap belt portion that is lockable so a child seat can safely be installed and secured.
Kia dealers will inspect all the seat belt assemblies and replace any that weren't made for the U.S. market.
The Kia Telluride recall is expected to begin August 30, 2019, but concerned drivers may call 800-333-4542 and refer to recall number SC181.
