— Subaru is recalling about 3,500 model year 2020 Outback and Legacy vehicles to check for brake pedal mounting bracket bolt problems.
Subaru says the bolts may not have been tightened or may be completely missing.
The brake pedal mounting area may deform if the bolt isn't sufficiently tightened, causing reduced braking performance due to the deformation.
Subaru says an employee discovered a bolt that wasn't tight enough and certain hardware was missing on the brake pedal mounting bracket. Subaru contacted the supplier which opened an investigation that determined a defective bolt feeder was the cause.
The automaker then discovered the affected vehicles were built between July 30, 2019, and August 29, 2019.
In addition to about 3,500 vehicles recalled in the U.S., another 89 vehicles are recalled in Canada.
Subaru dealers will inspect the brake pedal mounting bracket hardware and replace the hardware or the brake pedal assemblies once the recall begins in the U.S. October 1, 2019.
