— Problems with Hyundai's forward collision avoidance systems have caused a recall of more than 421,000 of these vehicles.

  • 2025-2026 Hyundai Santa Cruz
  • 2025-2026 Hyundai Tucson
  • 2025-2026 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid
  • 2025-2026 Hyundai Tucson Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV)

Software problems in the front cameras can cause the automatic emergency braking to suddenly activate and apply the brakes while driving.

According to Hyundai, the forward collision avoidance system's "multifunction camera software logic is conservatively tuned to detect impending frontal crashes using specific parameters such as speed, operator input, and proximity to surrounding vehicles."

Hyundai opened an investigation after complaints about sudden unintended braking incidents and began inspecting vehicles which had experienced the problems. Months passed when federal safety regulators contacted Hyundai about sudden braking on Tucson vehicles.

Multiple tests were conducted regarding the front multifunction camera software and the automaker found 376 reports related to the forward collision systems between October 28, 2024, and April 27, 2026.

Four reports indicate crashes in which Hyundai vehicles were rear-ended by closely following vehicles, allegedly resulting in four injuries.

Hyundai expects to mail recall letters July 17, 2026, then dealerships will update the front camera software.
