Vehicle's on board system reads "Electrical Malfunction: START/STOP system malfunction. Call service". THEN this triggers a complete shutdown of the vehicle: transmission, steering, distance, and braking sensors, etc all got affected.

While I was driving, the vehicle gave an electrical system malfunction warning. When I stopped and restarted the vehicle, the car reluctantly started with delays and a check engine light. I had to tow the car to the dealership. Upon inspection, they determined it is a generator issue, much like many other owners of 2019+ model year of Audi's. They do not have an ETA on the replacement part, and thus the car will be out of commission for weeks to months. I am lucky, as many other people who have experienced this problem have had their car completely die on them in the middle of driving. This is a potentially dangerous safety hazard, and an enormous inconvenience, as any Audi owner with this generator issue will not have their car for weeks to months.

The starter/generator (formerly known as alternator) of our A6 3.0 needs to be replaced, the part is back-ordered for approximately 60 to 90 days. The yellow indicator light goes on and then the car shuts off. It happens without warning and is incredibly dangerous.

My wife was travelling on the interstate at about 75 mph, when all of the dash lights flashed in red that there was an electrical system failure. At this time, while driving in the fast lane, it seemed like all systems including steering and power brakes failed. She managed to make it across four lanes of traffic before the car died completely. Once we got the car towed to the dealership, they informed us that it was a failure with the 48V generator and that it would be at least 2 months to fix the problem because the part was on back order. It has now been 2 and a half months, so I called the dealership and they told me they have 31 of these to change and my car is still a few weeks away from be repaired.

Mid December the day after I purchased my 2019 a6 the 48V starter generator failed while driving with my son in the car. Alerts came up as electronics issue and to pull over. Very quickly it stopped dead in road. They told me it is a known issue, and they have multiple A6s waiting for this part. It has been over a month and still unknown when this part will be available. This should be a recalled item, but is under warranty.

After about 20 minutes I received a red electrical system malfunction: stop vehicle safely. Thankfully I was pulling onto my street when the last alert popped up.

On Thanksgiving Day I received a warning on my display: "Electrical system: malfunction! Please contact Service." The next day I contacted Ellis Audi in Atlanta and was able to drive about 3 miles to take the car to them. At the end of the day they said I needed a new Alternator/Generator and the car should not be driven. They said the part was on backorder and they already had about 11 cars needing the same part. Since then they received 7 parts but now have about 20 cars on their lot requiring repair.

While driving my 2019 Audi A6 Premium Plus I received error messages: "electrical system malfunction contact service", then "start stop system malfunction contact service", then "electrical system malfunction stop vehicle safely". I went on an Audi owner internet forum and read about others with the same errors. Reports from others indicated that in about 40 miles from the first message appearing, all systems will completely shut down including the engine while you are driving. This could leave you stranded in the roadway if you are not able to pull over in time and requires a tow; the vehicle cannot be relied upon to get you to a service center at that point. My vehicle was in a parking lot at the time for a few hours. I was able to start the vehicle. It presented the first two messages immediately. I was able to drive another 10 minutes to arrive at home safely. On my way home the check engine light came on and as I got to my driveway "electrical system malfunction stop vehicle safely" appeared again. Two days have passed (where I did not operating the vehicle anymore) and I've now had the vehicle towed to my Audi dealer / service center. My service advisor called me back this afternoon saying that they confirmed starter / generator / alternator needs to be replaced. The alternator (only) is now on order for me with no ETA. He said the last one they fixed with this issue took 42 days. He said he has 6 vehicles on the lot with the same issue. This issue appears to be popping up for all early builds that has the Audi 48v MHEV (mild hybrid battery system). Other owners report they needed their 48v and sometimes 12v batteries replaced. As I mentioned earlier they only ordered the alternator at this point; I'm worried that my batteries cannot be trusted after this issue as apparently the cells in the 48v become unstable after entering this state.

Warning appeared for electrical malfunction contact dealer. Within 15 minutes of driving to the dealer, electrical failure please pull over appeared. My antilock breaks, transmission, and finally the entire electric panel failed. The car entirely stopped while in traffic. I was unable to even turn on hazard lights. It would not turn back on. It required towing to audi dealership. I have been told by Audi the starter generator died.

Starter/Generator Alternator failed and caused the battery to die ultimately leading to losing full power of the car on highway. Warning lamps were present and indicated "electrical system malfunction and contact the dealer for service." Car lost full power on the way to dealership and almost resulted in a crash. Component has been inspected by the Audi Dealer and confirmed to be the issue. Symptoms appeared very quickly and within 30 minutes of the symptoms the car was inoperable.

A warning message appeared that there is an electrical system problem. I arranged to bring to dealer for service the next day. While driving to dealer, multiple malfunction messages appeared on dashboard. Eventually all displays went black and shortly thereafter the engine stopped. I rolled to a stop. Car was dead. Audi stated it needs a replacement starter/generator. Very dangerous as it happened to me on an interstate. My research shows that this is a not uncommon problem.

While driving on an interstate highway, an electrical fault warning appeared. 5 minutes later, a series of warnings appeared pertaining to a whole host of Audi systems, and I suddenly lost power to the car. I coasted off the highway to the shoulder, where the car died. I was told by the dealership that the issue is a generator, and that it's a common issue affecting A6s. It was truly disconcerting to lose power, without much warning, when driving.

I was driving on the interstate when the vehicle gave a warning saying "electrical system malfunction, contact dealership". I went to the dealership as I was within a couple of miles and they said it could be many things and they would need to evaluate it the following week. I left with the car and attempted to drive it back the following week on the scheduled appointment. The vehicle did not make it back to the dealership. While driving on the interstate back to the dealership, a message saying, "Electrical system failure, safely exit roadway" came on. I was able to exit off the interstate immediately into a parking lot. While I was trying to exit, multiple warning lights came on saying the crash sensors were inoperable, transmission was inoperable, camera system was inoperable, and the car started shaking as if the engine was loose under the hood and it shut off and would not restart. This took less than about 90 seconds as I was at an exit and already in the right lane on the interstate. Audi Care came and towed the vehicle and the dealer says the alternator has gone bad and it is on backorder. This is exceptionally dangerous because if I were not at an exit and in heavy traffic, this could have happened while I was in the middle of the interstate and the vehicle lost all power. I've since read Audi forum and found this exact scenario has happened to many drivers who were not as lucky to be near an exit or under warranty. Audi should recall the vehicle because it puts the driver in a very dangerous situation. I was stuck in an empty parking lot for several hours waiting for a tow but I consider myself lucky after reading the experience of other drivers. My car has been in the shop for three weeks now and I'm not sure when they will have it fixed. My warranty expires in the next few months so I may end up having to pay for repairs later because my warranty expired while the car sits at the dealer and I won't be able to test if it has been resolved.
