My 2017 Audi Q7 is reporting a "front right side marker light defective" message. This happened after the car was brought into the dealer. The light is functional according to the dealer and visual inspection but I was told this is a nuisance error message. The dealer said even though it is working fine, I can pay $4,000 to have the light replaced to make the message go away. Or the other option is to just live with it, which means when it does go out I won't know that it has failed. This seems like a defective part that should be recalled.

I keep getting a "Front right side marker light defective." error. There is nothing wrong with the lamp but Audi wants to charge $4,000 to fix. This appears to be happening to other Q7 owners so I am reporting.

Received -??left front side marker deficient-?? warning. Warning appears when lights are turned on. Have been made aware that this issue may have been addressed for some, but not all, 2017 Q7s in a previous recall. This is a safety issue as the car could be less visible at night. Audi charging several thousand dollars for a new headlight assembly; should fix problem for free as it is a well known issue for this year of Q7 at this point.

The "front right-side marker light is defective" message illuminated in my dash February 2024 when my car is in the garage or gets dark. It does not impact the functions of the car and there is an amber reflector beneath it. According to Federal Law, these are necessary to be visible to others, and without these my car will not pass inspection. However, due to the engineering of the vehicle it requires $5000 to fix. It requires replacing the entire headlight assembly, which is a poor design for the consumer but benefit to the manufacturer. The Audi recall campaign 97CB (NHTSA campaign ID 16 V 642000) addresses this exact issue and applies to some affected VIN numbers but not all. It appears that this issue is happening to MANY more owners outside of the VIN numbers that qualify for the recall. If this is an issue with 2017 Audi Q7s, all 2017 Q7s should be included in the recall.

The contact's husband owns a 2017 Audi Q7. The contact stated while driving and activating the headlights, there was a message stating that the side marker lights were inoperable displayed. The contact stated that the failure recurred whenever the headlights were activated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V642000 (Electrical System, Exterior Lighting) and could not be repaired under the recall. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 64,000.

The left front marker light is not working and a warning shows up on the dashboard. It's a safety issue as the vehicle may be less visible at night, increasing the risk of a crash. I took my vehicle to an Audi dealership. The person helping me knew immediately what the issue was as he has seen it many times. When I looked up the issue online, I saw many other Audi owners (not only Q7 either) have the same issue of a side maker light not illuminating. I also saw that there was a recall for side marker lights, however, it seems my VIN was not included in the recall. Audi should be responsible for fixing this known issue that occurs in many of its cars. The dealership told me it would be $5K-$6K to replace the small light bulb! Truly outrageous!

Getting a warning on my dash. "Front left side marker light defective. See owner's manual." Appears to be an open recall from research online, but does not cover my VIN apparently. That's shady, it's a known issue and dealership wants $4,000 to replace. Heck no, this is a manufacturing defect. Audi recall campaign 97CB (NHTSA campaign ID 16V642000

Received the following warning: -??front left side marker defective-?? yet light is still functioning. I was told there is a short in the sensor, and In order to get rid of this warning, I would be forced to replace the entire headlamp at a cost of more than $5600. Other VINs from this model have been issued a recall for this very problem, yet my VIN was not included. From my understanding, all that is needed would be a software update. Please include all q7 Audi models in this recall, as this is obviously a more widespread issue after reading the other complaints.

I bought my 2017 Audi Q7 on November 16, 2023 (Used) and a couple of days after putting the headlights on Auto I get a message pop up "Front left side marker light defective See owner's manual". Also kept getting a low oil message. This model have no oil stick so I put about a 1/2 qt of oil in it to see if the message goes away. It goes away for a few hours. The vehicle basically stopped running leaving myself and kids on the side of the road in the winter while we wait for a tow truck. After getting it towed to Mentor Audi dealership, they gave me the bad news that the engine needed to be replaced. My engine has been replaced and documents can be sent upon request. After doing some research, I found out that these are common issues with the 2017 Audi Q7. NHTSA campaign ID 16V642000

Front Left Side Marker Light Defective alert repeating despite there being no identifiable issue with any lights. After checking with the owners manual - it says contact your Audi service. Checking online reveals that several other Audi owners with an AUDI Q7 2017 model have experienced this exact same issue. When the issue happens under warranty the headlight in question is replaced for around $4,000. If not under warranty it is an out of pocket expense - a very high cost. According to sources online this exact issue is covered by Audi Recall campaign 97CB (NHTSA ID : 16V642000) but only for some VIN numbers and not for many others experiencing the same issue.
