I received a notice in the mail that I have a important safety recall from BMW of North America. The recall is for a drivers front air bag module. Today 3/31/2016 I contacted two different dealerships (ft. Worth, tx location on white settlement road, and the arlington, tx location located off of lamar ave). Both locations said they have no idea when the parts will be coming in to replace the air bag module. I find it unacceptable to tell me its an important safety recall that could cause rupturing air bag resulting in metal fragments if I get into a wreck, and not have a date of when I can get this corrected.

The first occurrence was November 15 2015. The shut down happens intermittently without warning. After sitting 24 hours, the vehicle reboots and will start - it is then good for 7 days until it happens again. Several repair shops have diagnosed, but cannot identify/duplicate problem. Battery replaced, but did not remedy issue. First occurrence, vehicle was at complete stop - various messages on nav screen (warnings: Transmission malfunction, warned if vehicle is turned off, will not start again); on dash all lights were illuminated. Turned vehicle off, did not start again, as noted on nav screen. Next day, started with no problem. Towed to shop, but could not duplicate. Drove one week, then park brake came on. Next day, same alerts-this time while driving. Did not restart after turning off. Was able to start after 24 hours, but could only drive a few feet before totally shutting down in middle of the street while make a U turn. Towed to shop that night. Next morning, shop could not duplicate, as vehicle ran smoothly. Following week, returned to shop for further testing. Battery replaced and registered. When picking up vehicle, noticed nav screen was black, would not illuminate. 4 days later, it came on, but went out again the following day. The next day, engine shut down on interstate. While waiting for tow, wipers came on, door locks and windows would not work. Could not roll down window or open door to talk to safety patrol. Patrol jump started vehicle. It was later towed to dealer (where purchased). Nav screen is still black, dvd and cd do not work (cd changer spits out cds). Shifts very hard between gears. I am very afraid to drive this vehicle, as it cuts off intermittently and without notice. However, I have no choice, as I recently purchased it in August 2015; and I have too much negative equity to trade it for another vehicle.

BMW passenger seat airbag/seat restraint system has a malfunction. The system says there is a problem with the passenger seat and/or airbag restraint system or seatbelt or belt tensioners. There is a red light on the dash indicating failure of the system. This light comes and goes. Sometimes the light comes on even when no one is in the seat. I've googled this and it seems a lot of people are having the same issue with this. I'm not sure if the airbag is really effected or if it is a sensor malfunction. I see there are similar complaints listed here for this same issue.

I had already submitted a complaint under 10586821 due to the radiator but did not include that the mechanic said that the reason that radiator went out was because of the malfunction of the water pump which I also had to replace. I was told to amend the complaint once received but I never received anything in the mail. BMW knows that there is a problem and refuses to fix it. Also the passenger airbag indicator has been on for over a year. I was told that I would have to remove and have the airbags and sensors replace. What is the purpose of having something that is suppose to be for safety but it's malfunctioning. Therefore I have airbags that are not going to protect anyone in the course of an accident. This is also a common problem with BMW. This is not an age of car item because I had less than 40,000 miles when the indicator came on.

My son lean forward and turned left to grab an item from my daughter in the back seat. All of the sudden the passenger safety restraint system malfunction light came on. Now it comes on continuously when a front seat passenger moves slightly. I researched online and noted that recall has been done for numerous BMW cars, but just not my year model. I believe this is manufacture defect and they should fix it.

Traveling on expressway at approx 60 mph collided with a vehicle hitting him on rear. I sustained injury to my chest as a result of impact against the steering wheel because the airbag didn't deploy. I learned that BMW has recalled airbags on several models and believe the 2008 X5S should be included in the recall. My vehicle is at a collision center but I can make it available in case NHTSA experts would like to investigate if airbag sensors are working properly on this model. If indeed the airbags on the 2008 BMW X 5S are not working properly, I'd like for the manufacturer to create public awareness to prevent any serious injuries and/or fatalities from happening.

When a people seat on the passenger seat, the light "airbag of the passenger seat is off" is on. And the led panel shows "restrain system malfunction". I get my car checked at the dealership, they said this is due to the fault of the sensor in the seat and will make the airbag not deploy in an accident. Actually, this problem has been there for a while but only happen occasionally (one time a month), and can be solved by change sitting position a little bit. When I checked in the service, nothing wrong was found. He said the same problem exists in older models (e.g. 2005, 2006), which are in the recall list of BMW. But mine is not in and I need to pay $1400 to get it repaired. I think this is a really important issue since it disables the airbag, which is the most important safety equipment. My car is in a very good condition and serviced regularly. There is no reason it faults in such a low mileage and age. Many users in the BMW forum has the same issue, but is under risk or got to pay for the repair. I hope BMW can take care of this issue to recall the cars that are potentially in risk.

The contact owns a 2008 BMW X5. The contact stated that the passenger's side air bag warning light was illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer for diagnostic testing where the dealer stated that the air bag sensor was defective and needed to be replaced. The dealer had to order the air bag sensor. There months later, the dealer still did not have the part available to complete the air bag repair. The failure mileage was 52,000.

Vehicle is showing passenger restraint system failure. The error was intermittent earlier during the year I.e it will show up while driving but will go away upon restarting the car. My 4 year warranty period expired in April 2012. When I had taken it for final warranty service I had mentioned it to the dealer (BMW of rockville) but at that time they said that nothing is wrong since vehicle diagnoses is not showing anything. Now within 5 months this failure is permanent and dealer is asking $454 for repair - what a piece of garbage this car is. Never again am I buying a BMW.
