I am an owner of a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500. Lately I have had continued and consistent unwanted anti-lock brake (ABS) activation when traveling at low speeds and approaching stop signs, stop lights, and yield signs at or near intersections. The unwanted ABS activation appears identical and consistent with GM product recall 05068 and NHTSA campaign number 05V-379 in which 804,000 GMC and Chevrolet vehicles were recalled for unwanted ABS activation. The primary geographic regions affected appears to be the salt belt states. The problem appeared to be ABS wheel sensors not properly prepared prior to installation causing rust and/or corrosion to affect the wheel sensors. Although a check of my VIN does not yield any safety recalls on my specific vehicle, I believe my vehicle is affected by the same front wheel sensor corrosion issue as those vehicles listed in the recall. My vehicle Avalanche which is one of the vehicles affected. I also reside in Illinois which is one of the states affected. I am concerned this may cause and accident. I also believe this is a manufacturer defect and therefor the manufacturer should be accountable for any defect that may jeopardize consumer safety. I would like my wheel sensors cleaned and/or replaced per GM recall and at no cost to me.

Saturday January 23, 2016 during a snow storm my 2002 Chevy Avalanche 2500 VIN# [xxx] lost all brake control due to failed and corroded brake line under driver side door at retainer clip on side of frame without any warning signs of soft pedal or intermittent braking. This is the second truck driven a 2004 1500 with the same failed line in same place on frame. Just before the brake line failed there was a small car in front of me with two small children in the back seat that turned right if they came to a full stop I would have not been able to negotiate around them that could have resulted in injury and or death of the other occupants in the car. I do think that this is a big safety concern for all not just drivers of the affected trucks but anyone or object in its path. I asking for GM to recall all affected vehicles for a repair and replacement of all brake lines at the cost of General Motors with brake lines coated like the poly armor lines to aid in the resistance of corrosion. The current lines are only made of steel with no top coating and are routed in direct spray off of tires and road with no splash shield to protect line from spray or foreign objects from striking lines. Brake lines are made out of defective materials GM knows they have a problem the lines rust out prematurely. The first one blew out I was backing in a parking space pedal went to the floor. The second one blew at a traffic light pushed on the brake went thru the red light dodged traffic.the third on the interstate traffic was stopping suddenly pushed on the pedal another brake line broke went to the floor and I managed to hit the median cross the middle and get it stopped before a head on collision with the traffic heading the other direction on interstate 81. The rest of the under side is rust and corrosion free only the brake lines are rusted out !.that being said GM has a repair kit with coated lines they always have in stock because they know its a major problem !!! I got a repair estimate from my local dealership $1580 I am replacing all steel lines. Please make them recall this is going to kill someone

At slow speeds, the ABS comes on without warning on dry pavement, so this is not a result of a slippery road surface. I have almost hit several things/cars. There was a previous recall for this exact issue (050068A), but the dealer says that the recall repair was already done and they will not perform the repair again. I can understand the dealer's position if this were not the result of a recall, but this seems to be an ongoing issue. The recall repair work was completed in 2006, and now in 2015, I am sure it has rusted again to the point that the same probelm is occurring. Rust in the braking system is a problem with this vehicle, as the brake lines have rusted out and failed twice already.

When traveling at low speeds, >5mph, the ABS activates and vehicle continues on to the point of entering traffic. This occurs frequently and without warning, at stop signs and even just pulling out of private driveway into traffic. My local mechanic ran a diagnostic test and indicated that a front speed sensor was at fault. After investigating numerous sites, I found that there was a recall issued for the exact problem on the '02 Avalanche as well as other similar chassis trucks from '99-'02. And these were included in a recall of over 1,353,700 trucks under the NHTSA campaign # 05V379000. The report stated to contact GM and request authorization for the recommended repair. When I did that, the representative stated that there were no open recalls according to the VIN. How does GM determine which VIN is affected" is the NHTSA monitoring GM's selection process" I've own the vehicle since 6/05, and the above recall was initiated 9/05, but I've never received any type of notice that my vehicle may or may not be affected and to bring it to a GM dealer for inspection. I've had one hub assembly replaced years ago at my own expense, (I was told I had a bad bearing but they had the replacement part only came assembled as the bearing, hub and sensor). The designer must also have been the supplier. It's good that there is the NHTSA to try and keep these manufacturers accountable for the safety of the cars they produce, but with more automation in the industry to cut costs, you now have 1 worker overseeing what it took 10 to do. More and more mistakes are bound to happen. Our safety is worth more then their corporate jets and lavish lifestyles.

My brakes felt spongy during a drive, after arriving at home and visually inspecting my brakes I pumped the brake pedal twice and the brake line ruptured which runs directly under the drivers seat. There is significant rust on all brake lines, I just want to make sure my rupture is recorded after reading EA11-001.

My 2002 Avalanche had multiple brake lines fail this morning when I tried to stop when a dump truck pulled out in front of me this morning. I could not stop, the brake pedal was to the floor and I ended up in a field. The service shop showed me the heavily rusted and pitted brake lines. They failed in areas at the bend that were subject to salt exposure. The shop said the metal brake lines all have to be replaced.

At low speeds the anti lock brakes engage on dry pavement.. this greatly increases stopping distance.

While driving my truck and towing a trailer, I lost almost all my braking power. Had to down shift and use the emergency brake to stop. Found that a brake line from the master cylinder to the anti-lock brake module (which is mounted under the drivers seat, great place) had rusted through and blew out. Found all the brake lines are severely corroded in this area and need to be replaced. Looks like GM used inferior metal brake lines in constructing the vehicle and located the anti-lock brake module in an area that gets severe exposure to the elements. The vehicle was totally rendered unsafe with the rupture of one brake line, which indicates the system as a whole is a faulty design. I was very luck to have been able to stop and not hit another vehicle.

Brake pedal went to the floor upon braking. Had to downshift to low gear and apply what little brake I had left taking approximately 200 feet to stop. Luckily there was no vehicle in front of me or it would have been a rear end collision. Slowly returned home about a mile away and upon further inspection found the hard brake line right front passenger side had burst. No prior warning to loss of brakes.

The contact mentioned that excessive force was required into order to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 05V379000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 88,000.

When attempting to shift out of park the brake must be applied. The brake pedal sank to the floor and the brake telltale illuminated. Investigation identified a leak in the brake line just forward of the ABS module. Additional inspection highlighted significant brake line corrosion in the remainder of the system. The mechanic advised that a complete replacement should be done.

I was driving in the grass group carrying chairs to a campfire on the other side of the field with boys riding in the bed of my truck when I hit my brakes and they went to the floor. It scared me because there were boys walking in front of me. The truck did stop but not as quickly as I wanted it to. I am very glad no one was hurt. The next morning I looked under the truck and the long brake line that runs from the front to the rear of the truck had rusted and ruptured leaking out all of the fluid.

The brake line that goes the length of the truck from the front to the rear brakes corroded through and resulted in the failure of the brakes on my truck. I had to steer off the road and into some brush and a drainage ditch to stop the vehicle and avoid hitting cars in front of me.

Driving in school parking lot at 10 mph when all of a sudden, without any warning or notification from dash display, had to depress brake pedal all the way to the floor for the vehicle to stop. Braking distance increased dramatically. Went to the dealership and they informed me that the brake line ad rusted, brake fluid started to leak and all brake lines had to be replaced. Estimated cost of repairs is $1200 usd. All the times I took truck in for service and maintenance, not once did they recommend replacing brake lines. Did research online and mechanics and owner's of similar vehicles said that this is a design flaw and should be subject to recall.

While exiting the highway another vehicle cut in front of mine forcing me to stomp on the brakes to avoid a collision. The brake pedal went to the floor, but I did not make contact with the other vehicle. The drive home was less than 1 mile and brake pedal had no resistance. Once in my driveway, I noticed a small puddle. Had my wife press the brake pedal while I looked underneath and brake fluid shot out of one of the brake lines. Will be forced to have it towed to a repair facility.

After making the 23.7 mile commute to work driving on a parkway with a speed limit of 55 miles per hour that includes hills, I was entering into the parking lot at my workplace at approximately five miles per hour and when I applied the brake pedal the pedal went straight down to the floor and would not stop the truck. I then quickly applied the emergency parking brake and it stopped the truck. Approximately 30 minutes later I noticed a puddle of brake fluid next to my left front tire and a large puddle of brake fluid next to my left rear tire. That is when I looked under the vehicle and noticed the brake line had rusted apart.
