The dash is slit from the airbag module insert to the front vent which will cause the dash to fracture in the event of airbag deployment resulting in high speed shards being propelled into the cabin.

The dashboard has large cracks both in front of the instrument panel and around the airbag. This exact same problem has been reported by more than 4,000 GM truck owners. The cracking around the airbag are especially concerning, and likely pose a significant safety risk were the airbags to deploy. GM is apparently aware of this defect and fails to take responsibility for correcting the problem.

Dash is cracked with pieces of plastic being loose. Concerned about projectiles and or puncturing airbag if deployed. I believe this to be a common defect in these vehicles. Vehicle only has slightly over 60K miles on it now. Cracked around 45K to 50K miles. Date that I show below is approximate.

My dash is cracked and it reflects the crack on the windshields and causes glare. If the airbag was to deploy the sharp plastic would cut you from the broken dash. This is a dangerous situation. There are thousands of people with the problem and there are groups on facebook with thousands that have this issue. GM will not repair or replace it.

With 64,000 miles the dash is cracking in multiple places. If reflects the broken area onto the windshield so it impedes vision and could affect the airbag as it is broken around the area. After researching online most owners have this dash cracking issue around the airbag and upper dash. If the airbag was to deploy it would most likely eject hard plastic parts at you with the airbag.

Avalanche

The dash has cracked in multiple places starting at the passenger airbag. This is the third dash in this vehicle replaced for the same thing. This is posing a serious danger in case of an accident and the deployment of the airbag. The dash could also create a serious danger in throwing sharp projectile pieces in case of an accident. GM has had multiple complaints from 2007 to 2012 for faulty dashes but will not recall them or replace them at no cost to the consumer. There is a facebook forum for this very issue right now (search "07-13 GM cracked dash safety hazard for all trucks"). please look at this facebook page as there are many pictures of dashes cracked in the same places. It appears this issue is nationwide and has no relation to climate or location.

The contact owned a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500. While driving approximately 35 mph, all four of the side air bags deployed without warning. The vehicle was towed to the driver's residence where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was destroyed. A police report was filed and there were no injuries reported. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

The dashboard of my 2007 Chevy Avalanche has been cracking for years, I did let my dealership know and they said that was not under warranty and they didn't offer me a discount to repair it. My dash has several cracks from the drivers side to the passenger side airbag, a large hole is directly in the middle of the dash where the pieces just vibrated apart exposing the equipment under the dash. The pieces of plastic are a little heavy and sharp I feel the whole dash could break into pieces if the air bag is deployed. I do not have any record of receiving a quote or being denied the repair, but I don't think they will deny that they've been saying it's not covered. And, I'm not sure of the exact date, but I think it started to crack in 2010, now it's kind of a wreck, I've attached a picture of the big hole!

The dash has cracked in multiple places including at the airbag. This is a known problem by GM and all Tahoe, Avalanche, Suburban, and Sierra pick up trucks have the same problem. The service manager at my dealership admitted GM had a problem with the vendor supplying this dash. I consider it a safety issue because it is at the air bag, and also over the instrument panel and electronics.

My Chevy Avalanche has a known issue of the dash cracking which GM denies. Like many other Tahoe, Silverado, and Avalanche owners I have a cracked dash right in the corner of the passenger side air bag and another over the drivers steering column. The dash flaps freely and I'm worried if the air bag goes off that sharp shrapnel will fly in the face of the driver and passenger. There are tons of owners all over with identical issues.

The service air bag light came on, the vehicle was just driven a short distance 10 miles, then it sat. Still on onstar diagnostics couldn't communicate with the system. So called the dealer took it in, they said it was the SDM module, so they ordered a new one. A week later the new one came in, they can't communicate with that one. They said we could take the truck for the weekend, and they have the GM engineers looking into it. The car is in great shape, drove it 2 years without a single incident. They did just change the 4X4 actuator a few miles back. They want $667, but maybe more since it's been there for 2 whole days, with no improvement. Oh the extended warranty they sold me when I bought the truck for computer, electrical, etc..($2500 from united car care) doesn't cover it because it's air bag related something about liability.

Initially the dash board cracked in one corner on the passenger side, at the right upper corner of the inset for the passenger airbag. Now the dash board has split in the center and the left upper corner at the passenger side air bag. It seems if the passenger side air bag were to deploy the broken sections of the dash would become projectiles inflicting serious injury. I have notified the local Chevy dealer, vester Chevy, svc manager [xxx], but they state it is a "normal" wear item! they refuse to address the issue. I have noticed in google searches and vehicles I look at the problem is widespread on GM Tahoe and GMC Yukon for several years of production. Please make this note a subject of concern.
