Avalanche

  • 72,000 miles
Around the May 2012 timeframe I had to take my 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche in to a local dealership for service to the cracked dashboard near the passenger side air bag. The dealership agreed that this was a defective issue through out a number of other GM models. The dealership agreed to replace the dashboard at no charge. This week on 9 December 2013 I noticed another crack in the new dashboard. Just slightly over a year this has happened again but this time in a new location. This crack is on the drivers side near the front of the windshield near the VIN number plate to the base of the instrument cluster. This crack in the past two days is opening more and more everyday. On 10 December the crack has now formed a "V" shape and has split to towards the drivers door. I took the vehicle in today and the dealership, the same dealership that replaced the dashboard the first time, said no and that they could no longer help me and recommended to me that I just get a "cover" to not see it and bother me. I paid nearly $40,000 for the truck and keep very good care of it. I feel that these cracks are a safety concern that should be addressed and fixed. The dealerships around the country have acknowledged that this is an issue and they will no longer help. Other owners like me are having this issue and we need help to get our vehicles fixed. Please help all of us in getting this issue fixed as soon as possible.

I was involved in motor vehicle accident on the date of Nov 21,2013. I was pulling out of a parking lot, I was hit by an on coming mid sized SUV traveling at a high rate of speed. The crash caused a large amount of damage to the SUV as well as a large amount of damage to my 2007 Avalanche. The impact hit my front drivers corner. My air bags did "not" deploy!!!! there is now a warning light on my dash info center. I got that info from the ins adjuster who called to let me know the truck is going to be repaired. My concern is that why didn't my air bags deploy"?? I have been doing some reading and there seams to be a major issue with GM's Avalanche models and air bag issues. It is well documented on several web site threw out the internet. I even found some info on service notices posted by GM to dealers. If GM knows this is a safety issue why has there not been a national recall? I was involved in a major accident and did not have the added benefit of the safety devices that are supposed to save my life I paid for that added safety in the high purchase price of my truck. Why didn't they work like they are intended to???? thank the lord it was just me in the truck!! god forbid had my family been in the truck with me, I can't imagine the out come!!! something needs to be done, there is clearly a safety issue with these systems. GM knows there is a problem but has done nothing to solve it. What will it take??? a death??" I certainly hope not!!!! I suffered some injuries, none internal but I am still recovering, I wonder if they would have been minimized had my air bags worked like they should have! I am thankful that I'm still here for my family and that none of them were with me in the truck during this accident. Please address this issue before some one looses their life or that of a loved one! GM needs to fix this asap! please!!!

GM has a safety issue with dashboards cracking near where the airbag deploys on the passenger side of the vehicles. There is also cracking on the left side of the instrument pod. All cracks are in identical areas of these same model years and newer. This is my second dash board that has to be replaced.

I am the owner of a 2007 Avalanche where the safety of the vehicle is in question. My wife was sitting stationary at a red light and for some reason both seat belts violently retracted to the point of injuring her and causing damage to passenger seat trim. Also the emergency flashers would not shut off and on-star was called twice. When the vehicle was being driven to the dealer for service check today, both side airbags deployed unexpectedly?my wife had to immediately stop the vehicle within a mile of our home, turn around, and leave it parked. I now have a vehicle that has seat belts that will not retract, side air bags deployed, and service air bag light continually on unable to be driven. Fortunately there were not more serious repercussions due to this vehicles failures. We expect your quick address of this and at no cost.to us. Just thankful lives were not lost due to whatever caused this problem.

The dash is cracked next to the airbag on passenger side. Manufacturer refuses to fix or replace without the consumer taking responsibility and paying for replacement. This is a one owner vehicle, garage parked, dash-mat since first acquired truck. This seems to be a very widespread problem for GM vehicles of the same make and other similar vehicles. I have a huge safety concern that the airbag upon deployment will be ruptured and become ineffective due to the crack in the dash possibly puncturing the airbag. It is also very evident that this is a manufacturing flaw that GM will not stand up for and take responsibility.

Cracked dashboard on passenger side where airbag is fitted. Upper lefthand side of airbag. Traction control/stabilitrac system: Service indicator warnings activate, switches from 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive high even though selector is in 2wd mode. The first occurrence of this was at 70K miles, then again at 90K. Then again at 97K the transmission was damaged and needed to be replaced. Again at 101K miles the ringgear in the rear axel was destroyed. Rear axel was replaced. Fifth time for those counting, 116K miles service stabilitrac and service traction control warnings, switching from 2wd to 4WD high while moving, while parked, selector in 2wd position with someone at the wheel or cab empty. Evaporative emission control warning. Check engine light on, code comes back to eec. Indicating a leak in the return line. The first time this was replaced at 70K miles, this is the second time. And no it is not the gas cap being loose or needing replaced. The first time there was "water in the connector" (yeah sure).

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche. The contact was driving 35 mph when the airbags deployed independently. The seat belts became abnormally tight and the hazard lights activated. The driver sustained minor bruising and injuries to the neck and ears from the air bag deployment. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who advised that they would be inspecting the vehicle to determine why the air bags deployed. The manufacturer was contacted but stated they could offer no assistance until they received the results of the inspection from the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 74,000.

Avalanche

  • 38,000 miles
On Saturday, 07/12/2008, I was driving approximately 45 mph on a paved city road in dry, sunny weather. Without warning or an accident, both side curtain airbags deployed suddenly in my 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche. As advised by onstar and a local Chevrolet service dealer, I took the truck into the Chevrolet dealership for repair on the following Monday morning (07/14/08). On the 1st day of drop-off/damage evaluation and diagnosis, the Chevy dealership advised me that General Motors had agreed to make repairs to my truck and pay my rental vehicle charges. I inquired about what caused the airbag deployment and was told by my service adviser that he did not know and that G.M. had advised him to provide a rental vehicle for me, order repair parts, and send in the damaged parts to G.M.. two days later, the service supervisor contacted me and stated that I have scrapes on my (right-sided) rims/tires and that G.M. is now refusing to cover this repair and that I am to file an insurance claim. This unwarranted airbag deployment could have easily caused a serious or fatal driving injury. I believe that a safety recall board should investigate this immediately. There was no collision and there is no body damage to my vehicle. I have digital pictures that document this.
