2011 Chevrolet Avalanche has dashboard cracking all around the passenger side air bag. My concern is if the air bag is deployed for any reason the hard plastic dashboard material will shatter a scatter all through the cabin injuring myself, or worse my family. My understanding after reading all the reviews this is not a concern of GM even though most vehicles have this issue. It seems they are simply waiting for enough people to get injured before they have to do a recall due to using inferior products. This was my first Chevrolet and will be my last, what a disappointment.

Received recall letter from GM July 2016 contacted our local dealership several times and request new airbag during routine service. The dash around the airbag has two cracks and vibrates when driving. It is garage kept, 87,000 miles. It needs to be repaired or replaced. I am worried that the airbag may not work or that passenger will be injured with plastic from dash if needed in crash.

General Motors dash cracks on various Avalanche model years. My research suggest other GM vehicles similar too the Avalanche. My meticulously maintained Avalanche is typical. Comparing too other GM vehicles of other owners. Crack are near identical in location. Presently one at the passenger airbag. Second crack on the instrument dash hump. I can only conclude the possibility of a design flaw. Crack picture are the best I can do. Airbag crack is near the quarter. Two pictures show the vehicle is not abused. General Motors contact have proved useless. "if I want the crack repaired, I would have to pay from my own pocket."

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16V381000 (air bags); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

My vehicle dashboard has cracked, most recently at the passenger side airbag. Another crack started earlier directly above the vehicle gauge cluster. The most recent crack to the dash now causes the dash panel to consistently shake while the vehicle is in motion. I do not know for sure if the cracks occurred while the vehicle was stationary or while in motion. The concern now involves the proper operation of the passenger side airbag and what will occur with the damaged dash if the airbag must deploy. Will it properly deploy and if it must, will the damaged dash have an adverse effect on the vehicle driver and passengers? finally, the damaged dash is a distraction to the vehicle operator with constant vibration and is directly ahead in the vehicle operators field of vision.

My dashboard cracked in two places, by the passenger airbag and over the instrument cluster. As near as I can tell it occurred when my wife was driving on a highway. Highway 99 from athens, al to salem, al. We are afraid that, if anything occurs to cause the airbag to inflate it will send shards of plastic flying through the cab.

Dashboard cracked while sitting in driveway and now violently shakes and bounces while driving including right above airbag, see this is a very common problem with this truck, concerned on the affect this would have if in accident due to the sharp edges and continuing growing length of the crack, could easily send sharp shards if in accident and wife is already severly disabled. GM is aware but did not offer any help.

The vehicle dashboard is exhibiting multiple, continual cracking around the air bag cove plate and above the instrument panel. Cracking is occurring without regard to vehicle movement. The concern is if an accident occurs the cracked pieces of the dashboard will form shrapnel when air bag inflates and/or interfere with air bag proper operation.

Dashboard has cracked into multiple pieces around and behind the instrument cluster and near the airbag. Numerous calls with Chevy have failed to resolve the problem and Chevy refuses to guarantee, in writing, that the airbag will still discharge properly in an accident and remain seated properly and that the radio will not dislodge from the dash. This vehicle is well maintained and has approximately 51K miles on it. This is a huge safety concern and is a common issue with all vehicles with the same dash made from 2009-2013. Chevy has acknowledged this is an issue yet refuses to repair or replace unless they are forced to in a recall.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be inspected. The contact was informed that the dashboard needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
