I have been plagued with constant brake problems on my '95 Blazer. It has been in the shop since I purchased it over 10 times for the brakes alone. I recently heard about the brake recall warning issued by you (NHTSA) and immediately called ed morse Chevrolet and spoke with a service manager. He advised me your report was false and you are re-issuing a statement to the contrary. He told me the warning had "nothing to do with my particular Blazer" and that I would not be included in any recall or warning presently. My brakes have been a nightmare for me, I am afraid of braking system, but have no choice but to drive the vehicle. I had my attorney write a letter to ed morse, to no avail. I finally went to an outside mechanic who attempts to keep me safe by regularly checking my braking system. What I would like to know is am I included in this recall alert 99V193000 or NHTSA campaign number 991006000? any help that you can give me will be so appreciated. Thank you..francesca bealert

#1 - failure of antilock brakes to stop car. This has occurred on multiple occasions and under a variety of conditions and speeds. Most frequent at low speeds and on wet roads. When I step on the brakes they make a clicking or chattering noise the car slows as if to stop then lurches forward another 5-8 feet. I have complained to the dealer I purchased it but they were never able to duplicate the problem. No mention of the ongoing investigation. Blazer and jimmy's are also subject to excessive front brake wear. After replacing my front brakes 4 times and contacting dealerships I was told to expect to replace my front brakes every 12-18,000 miles. When I questioned this approach they said the brakes were changed in 1997 to address the problem. Questionl: Could excessive front brake wear be linked to the ABS problem. If brakes think car is in 4 wheel drive wouldn't they apply more pressure to stop than if in 2-wheel drive. Another possible link is the excessive brake dust which accumulates on the front tire covers. Never seen this on any other model. I certainly hope that your investigation into the ABS problems can be extended to evaluate the entire braking system in these cars. When I called chev. Customer service to ask when the ABS recalls would begin they claimed that they didn't know and that it really wasn't an official recall yet. #2 - coolant mixed with transmission fluid in area of radiator, caused transmission fluid to be dumped, major damage to transmission & radiator. Dealer covered because they have "seen this problem before". isn't this worthly of a recall" how many people have paid for major repairs caused by this defect. How long can I trust my transmission which was repaired not replaced? can this happen again"

Ten + brake failures during the course of four years. Complained to the dealer numerous times - everyone from sales to service denied they had received any complaints about ABS brakes. Have paid dealer twice to replace drums, pads, turn rotors, etc. When I explained what the brakes were doing. This is a major safety hazard.

Have had major engine problems since first year of ownership. Had to replace battery 3 times (first time within first year), have been stranded because of a "no-start" problem 6 times since purchase, dealer and two other mechanics cannot find cause, brakes have a very poor performance and must be replaced frequently, fuel pump replaced, ignition replaced, now the engine has "blown" all on a vehicle that has been properly maintained and not abused. This is the most unreliable, costly, stress-cuasing vehicle I have ever owned and I would like Chevrolet to take some responsibility for a very poorly built (lemon) car.

Vehicle will stall when braking hard if fuel tank has less than 1/4 tank of gas. Originally reported to dealer while vehicle still under warranty, dealer said this was 'normal' for this vehicle. The dealer explained that when the fuel tank is low it is possible for the fuel pump to go 'dry' under certain braking conditions causing the engine to be starved of fuel thereby stalling the engine. To date vehicle has stalled a total of five times under these circumstances, I do not feel that it is 'normal' for a vehicle to stall when there is fuel left in the tank. The incident reported here almost caused an accident, I was braking and making a right turn at the time, when the engine stalled I lost power steering and power brakes, this made the vehicle almost impossible to control in the turn. Fortunately the vehicle behind me was able to maneuver around my stalled vehicle.
