This vehicle would not stop in a parking lot. The ABS system activated, but brakes failed to stop the vehicle in a reasonable distance and time. This truck is scary to drive in the snow. It does not want to stop. Has there been any recall for the ABS system on 1997 Blazer?

This SUV does not stop the way it should. The ABS is over sensitive. It activates way too soon, making this vehicle have a very long stopping distance. In snow this very un-nerving, even at very low speed. Has there been any other concerns or complaints about this vehicles' ABS or long stopping habits?

Traveling 63mph approaching slowing/stopping traffic from a distance. Gradually began slowing vehicle and applying increased brake pressure. Traffic then stopped, applied heavy pressure-both feet on pedal, hands braced on wheel and body thrust back in the seat. Brake pedal was soft and to the floor and vehicle did not stop. ABS did not work - no "chk, chk, chk" sound and no pulsating. Resulted in rear end collision. Noticed that an ABS recall exists for model of vehicle manufactured in same month/year (NHTSA campaign id#: 99V193000) but was told by Chevrolet that this vehicle is not included because it is a 1997 model.

ABS brakes grind, causing failure. Brake pedal to floor and won't stop. ABS light stays on continually. I have had many near misses of rear-end accidents. Have been unable to get assistance in the repair. Warranty has expired and the cost to get this fixed/resolved has prevented my taking the Blazer to a dealer for many months. Will be taking the Blazer to a dealer on Monday, August 7, 2000.

This has been taken into the same dealer several times for brake problems without any satifactory answers. The last time was about 3 months ago when I finally gave up and have been looking at trading it off in the near future when I can afford to. At the last effort to correct the problem with the service mgr, he told me that the caracteristics of the brake pedal slowly go to the floor at a stop sign or lite is normal. He said" this is caused by the brake lines expanding" and is normal with the 97 Blazer. Braking problem still exists today.

1. the brakes lock up all the time when you go from dry to wet weather. When you press on the brakes they lock-up. Dealer states that there is no problem with the brakes. 2. have went through 3 sets of brake pads already. Dealer replaced calipers in 1998 but the pads still wear out too fast. This is the front brakes.

Failure of engine control systems to reduce idle RPM on deceleration is causing undue strain on braking system and premature wear of components. Problem has been reported to dealer on two occasions and has not been corrected. Reduced braking ability while in gear and even downshifting due to the engine's delay in reducing the idle speed has forced the driver to shift to neutral to during braking to disable the engine from the drive system. The vehicle is equipped with a manual 5-speed transmission. Problem may be linked to other models with faulty egr valves but has not been diagnosed by my dealer. Their only solution is to download a new program into the ECM, but it hasn't worked.

Brakes spongy, inability to stop in proper manner, almost in 3 accidents this past weekend, this will be my 4th set of brakes in 26,000 miles, I don't know if it is the ABS that is causing it, because no one can find out what the problem is, master cylinder replaced, tires are still bad from the day I purchased auto, I have 2 dealerships telling me two different stories, no one can fix auto, GM will not respond to complaints of this safety issue, they brush it off, the system is bad, and they will not correct the problem.

When applying the brakes during normal stopping ABS system kicks in which increases the stopping distance an additional 15-20 feet. This happens on any type of road surface without warning. This condition caused a rear end crash. The truck was brought to the dealership a couple of times for ABS problems. Several adjustments and repairs were made, but the problem continued.

On 12/22/99, my husband and I were involved in an auto accident. A woman two vehicles in front of us lost control, struck the concrete divider, flipped over & wound up upside down perpendicular in the road in our lane(left lane). Our brakes failed in our vehicle & as a result we struck the vehicle in front of us who was appearantly pushed into the overturned vehicle. Our vehicle was towed from the scene as we were taken to the hospital. My husband did not have an opportunity to advise the investigating officer of his brake failure. When the officer arrived at the hospital, he told my husband he did not want to hear what he had to say because the officer indicated he had 2 independent witnesses. The officer advised the witnesses stated the van in front of us had stopped with out striking the overturned vehicle, & therefore we too should have been able to stop. We saw the first vehicle lose control & had plenty of time to react with more than ample distance to stop. Had our brakes not have failed we would have been able to stop & there would not have been an accident. There has been a recall on 1995-1996 chev Blazer related to ABS. Though our vehicle is a later model, I do believe our claim should be investigated. I have reported the claim to GM as well as our insurance co. Please feel free to contact me so that I may answer any questions you may have. I look forward to hearing from you with any information &/or assistance you can provide. Thank you in advance for your time & attention in this matter.
