My car started to smell like gasoline. I thought it was the fuel cap, but when I had some repairs done that were unrelated to the fuel system, the mechanic noticed fuel leaking from the top of the fuel pump housing by a small fitting. The plastic fitting had cracked where the hose attached to the top of the fuel pump. I took the broken pump to the Chevy dealer and was told that my VIN was not covered by the recall. However, they did inform me that if I still had less than 160,000 miles, they would have replaced it. I think this is unsafe regardless of the amount of miles a car has. The mechanic stated that there could have been a fire.

During a drive to work, approximately 5 miles in travel there was a gas smell indicated in the cabin of the vehicle. The smell prompted me to bring the car to the dealership in greeley Colorado where the technician told me that the fuel pump was leaking and could cause a fatal fire. The technician checked the current recalls and all cars in the 2006 - 2007 year were recalled except this model that was sold in another state. He informed me that I was to contact GM directly, when I contacted GM they stated that this particular car was not under recall. When I mentioned the other recalls on the same Cobalt cars with similar problems they stated that there was nothing they could do to resolve the issue other than direct me to place a complaint with the highway administration. Since this conversation has occurred I was instructed not to drive my car due to the likely hood of possible fire, I have been without a vehicle to go to and from work. Since this is an on going issue and other models that have been recalled, I feel that I have been mistreated and put my families lives at risk due to a known problem with this model. Any help would be a greatly appreciated, thank you for your time and consideration of this complaint.

Strong fuel smell while driving and when vehicle not running. Fuel leak from gas tank area. GM recall will not cover because they say it was a "goodwill" recall and put mileage limitations. GM wants me to pay dealership for an "official" diagnosis and they "might" help me. Sounds like a gimmick to get more money for the dealership. They know I am over the mileage limitations so why pay the extra money for an official diagnosis" rip off, they know this is a problem. When someone blows up maybe they will repair then?"

I took my 2006 Chevy ss Cobalt into the dealership because there was a strong gas smell coming from the car. I was told there was a recall on this model of car for the fuel system, gasoline: Delivery : fuel pump but only if I lived in Arizona or Nevada. I also looked up a few different forums online for this problem and there were many others that did not live in the states listed that had this same problem. There seems to be a problem in other regions on the recall that aren't being addressed that could cause some serious issues.

Could smell gas every time that I got out of car. Was told that it was not covered under the recall because it was over the 120,000 miles that they allowed. So, I had to pay for it myself. Who in their right mind would make a fuel pump and sending unit out of plastic. Connection points should be steel.

I was under my car inspecting it for a leak from spots I saw on the drive way. I found out the hard way it was a fuel leak near the gas tank when it decided to catch on fire with me underneath the car. I was not injured but the car was a total loss. I had previously asked the dealer to do any recall work needed when my power steering pump had gone bad. They told me the power steering pump was the only recall issued for my vehicle. I found out now, over a year later that some were recalled for a fuel line problem like this, and mine has a VIN that matches the recall, but since mine was not sold in a state covered my vehicle was not covered by the recall. Would have been nice to know before crawling under the car.

After the issue was diagnosed to be a fuel leakage, GM was contacted by rosner Chevy and I was advised that the repairs to my car would not be paid for by GM. I contacted GM and I was told my car had too many miles and therefore they would not honor the recall. I was forced to pay $578.36, in order to get my car repaired.

NHTSA, I'm responding to an article that I read on cnn regarding fuel pump pressure line for 2007 Chevy Cobalt. My vehicle is a 2006 Chevy Cobalt that on 08/28/2012 had to replace the fuel pump pressure line that is currently being recalled by GMC for 2007 to 2009 Chevy Cobalt. I would like for the 2006 Chevy Cobalt be placed on recall list so I can be refunded the 695 dollars I had to pay for my fuel pump pressure line to be replaced. I' M sure there are more 2006 Chevy Cobalt owners that have experience the same fuel pump problem.

I noticed the car emitting a gas smell which consistently got worse over the week. I took it in to have it checked and discovered that the entire fuel pump had to be replaced because part of it was leaking gas. The mechanic explained that the fuel pump is above the gas tank, and they had to take it all apart to even look at it. I discovered that a recall was in place (GM recall no. 090226), but only in certain states (not mine). I'm no mechanic, but the actual mechanic said that the recall description matched the problem this car is facing. He also mentioned that because he had to take it all apart this problem was probably not from everyday wear and tear. I hadn't noticed any leaks until after I got it checked, and now it is leaking all over the place. I am curious as to why the recall is only in certain states. Is the weather a factor" did only certain cars get this faulty part" if it is known that the part is subpar, let's get all states on board.

Gas mileage had significant decrease on highway trips. After driving >50 miles and parking car in garage, garage would smell horribly of gasoline. Upon initial investigation, gasoline was leaking from the top-end of the fuel tank in the area of the plastic supply and return lines via the fuel pump. Car was taken to tom gill Chevrolet for repair work where it was diagnosed to replace fuel pump assembly due to a cracked fuel supply/return line on fuel pump modular. Upon discussing with dealership, it as indicated this item was under recall but is region specific. Dealership made comments that it was regional due to cost of repair. This car was manufactured with the same components as the cars recalled in New Mexico, Mississippi, California, etc. It is unacceptable for the consume to bear cost of replacement due to region when it is a common problem with the Cobalt platform.
