2007 Chevrolet colbalt. 03/30/10, power steering went out seven times in thirty two miles on my way to work. Has caused near accidents on curves and icy roads many more times. Problem is corrected temporarily when vehichle ignition is turned off (while still in motion) then turned back on and started. Power steering has went out in the middle of negotiating a corner causing me to inadvertantly go into oncoming traffic lane and over correct when returning to lane of travel.

Contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt lt. The contact stopped at a stop sign and proceeded to make a right turn at 3 mph. While turning, the power steering failed and the vehicle veered to the right toward a curb. The driver was able to avoid an accident and took the vehicle to an authorized dealership the following day. The dealer informed her that the failure was caused by defective struts and not the power steering. The contact then took the vehicle to a local repair shop and the mechanic told her that the struts were not defective. The failure mileage was 99,081. The current mileage was 99,312.

2007 Chevrolet Cobalt. Consumer states with brake system problems. The consumer stated every time she applied the brakes, the steering wheel would vibrate and there was hesitation when she braked from high to moderate speeds to slow down or to come to a complete stop. Also, aside from that, as she began to drive, the vehicle would pull to the left. The vehicle was inspected several times. All four tires were replaced and a front wheel alignment was performed, but the problem continued.

Cobalt

We were driving through a parking lot about 10 miles an hour when my power steering went out. We heard a beeping sound and could not turn the wheel. There was a car coming towards us and we started freaking out and to swerve to miss them so we would not wreck. We had no choice to pull over and try to figure out what was wrong, but since it is electric we could not find what was wrong. Since this happened away from our house I missed work. This problem occurred for about four days before we could get it fixed. We took it to the Chevy dealership and they said they were unable to help because it was not under warranty. We were also told that the dealership could not help because no one was in a wreck or hurt. The dealership wanted to charge us 1200 dollars. We ended up taking it somewhere else for 800 dollars. We had to buy a new power steering column and the part of the electrical power steering.

Feb 102010

Cobalt

  • 20,660 miles
On February 10, 2010, while traveling West on 14th street another driver in the left lane entered my lane (right lane), and I slammed on brakes to stop from hitting the other drivers vehicle. Despite the fact it was a sunny very cold day outside and the streets were dry the brakes on my vehicle locked up as though I have an anti-locking braking system, which I don't have on my car. The steering wheel became none responsive and my car ended up jumping the curb and hitting a telephone pole on the front driver side of the car. There is damage to the driver side headlight and a dent in the same area in the shape of the pole; furthermore, the airbag never deployed. The car is currently at a GM body shop being repaired by the other drivers insurance; however, in light of the recent GM recall about an issue with the steering wheel I am bringing my accident to your attention just in case the issues are related.
