Let me start by saying, I have been a loyal Chevy Girl, I loved my Chevy Avalanche, I traded it in when gas prices became rediculous and bought the 2011 equinox 4 cylinder. BIG MISTAKE!

Anyway, since my first month or so with the car I noticed it would decelerate on its own while I was driving and for no apparent reason. I told the dealership about it and they told me they couldn't find anything wrong. My next complaint started about a year or so of having the car and noticed it would run rough and sound like awful clattering when I started the car. Anyone around when I started it would say, "that doesn't sound good", it literally sounded like a diesel engine. Then it started with hesitating and feeling like it was going to stall and I was told, my oil was low by a mechanic. So the past 6 months or so on three separate occasions I have experienced the car idling rough and stalling at least three different times, one time coming out of a stop in the middle of the road and another while idling at a traffic light on highway (Parkway) in NJ.

I took the car straight to the Chevy Dealer and they told me it hardly had any oil in it. I was upset and said, I get my oil changed on schedule and it should not be just burning oil. The mechanic told me these cars burn oil. I told him it is not normal and with no warning it starts to stall (Not even a check engine light or oil low warning). It is dangerous, someone is going to get KILLED if this happens in a busy intersection! It's only a matter of time.

The dealership asked me to bring it back in at 1000 miles after they changed my oil and they would do oil consumption test. WELL, I did not make it to 1000 miles at 800 miles (give or take 25) my car smelled like it was on fire and the smell of burning oil was inside the vehicle and billowing from under on 1/31/15. I looked under the car and noted it to be coming from the area that looks like where the pipe meets the muffler. I had my father check it. The engine was off and sitting a few minutes he went to pull the dipstick out, and oil shot about 2-3 feet in the air on him and down the driver side wheel well. My father demanded I have the car towed to the dealer and told me there was something very wrong. My father could have been injured severely, luckily he was in front of the engine and the dipstick tilts to the driver side wheel well so it exploded in that direction, he was lucky it only got on his arm and jacket.

I am sad to say that I am losing faith in Chevrolet, I have always been so proud to be a Chevy Girl, all of my family drives Chevrolet vehicles. I don't' think I will be buying another again anytime soon. I feel like I have been ripped off, I paid nearly $35,000.00 for this car and paid it off a year ago. I am sick to my stomach over this. Luckily when I told the service manager about what happened to my father when he checked the oil, and the fire/ burning smell I experienced, they evaluated the vehicle and they called to tell me they needed to replace the pistons, valve cover and timing chain (covered under power train warranty).

I am worried about getting this vehicle back and something happening again. Something is seriously wrong with these engines. I am horrified when I read the complaints about them. Chevy needs to stand behind their product and recall these engines or they are going to lose a lot of loyal customers and more than likely have lawsuits on their hands.

We purchased this car on 08/26/2010 new, on 12/13/2010, the car had a strong ticking sound so I checked the engine oil and we discovered that the dipstick was completely dry, we added a quart of oil and still was not registering on the dipstick

We had service at the Lannan Chevrolet in Woburn Ma. On 12/14/2010, the service personnel were rude and not helpful when we showed concern. They checked the oil level found that it was 2 quarts lower with the quarts that I added the day before service.

On January, 9/2011, less than one month from the last service, the dipstick is now half way down, using more gas and the ticking is louder
