Equinox ES 4

  • Automatic transmission

It all started a week ago at the car wash. When my turn came to pull in, the car start jerking and it shut complete off. I put the truck in park and restarted it back up. Then a week after every time I stop at a light, the truck just shuts down then again. I put in park and it restart again. This happened to me 5 times. To be truthful, they can take this truck and shovel it up they ass. I don't want to drive it anymore. Thank god I was driving in the city, if I was on the highway who knows what might happen.

Since the day I drove my vehicle off the lot I have had problems with lack of acceleration, shuddering, rattling of the motor and my vehicle sounding like a semi. I took the vehicle back to dealership on multiple occasions and the dealership could never reproduce the issue. While driving on the expressway in traffic, the vehicle died twice and almost did not restart. There was no shoulder to pull off on. I made it home and did not drive the vehicle the following day.

On Sunday I tried to start the vehicle and it would not start. The starter is clicking, the fuel is pumping and the engine is trying to turn over. When I release the ignition the car keeps trying to turn over! I had the vehicle towed to my local mechanic who would not touch it. He said it needed to be immediately towed to the dealership and it's possible that there was a timing issue which in turn ruined the lifters and heads. I had to pay for a second tow to the dealership and an now waiting for them to look at it. Hopefully whatever it is is covered under the power train warranty.

The vehicle is less than 3 years old and well maintained. Hopefully the dealership is good to deal with, but in the meantime I have no vehicle as they have no loaner vehicle for me. I am so disappointed and frustrated since I can clearly see, reading the web sites that this is a common problem with the 2011 and 2012 Equinoxes. I hope the dealership does right by us and repairs this issue appropriately since we brought the vehicle in under warranty when we first purchased it and they claimed to not be able to reproduce the issue. This could have been avoided.

I was driving on HWY280 when I had to slow down due to heavy traffic and all of a sudden the car started to jerk and then the engine shut down. I freaked out with bumper to bumper traffic. I restarted the car and it worked so I continued driving. Then again the second day I stopped at a stop sign and the engine started jerking around, I turned on the emergency light, then I changed the gear to park, then it was OK. I bought this car about 1 year 4months ago at 29000miles.

I think it is a gear problem but will see. I will take the car to the Chevy dealer but now upon researching it seems to be a common problem. I am stressed what is going to happen, so far I haven't seen any solutions for this issue on the website. I regret getting a Chevy, so much for buying American.
