about a year ago my husband was following me in my dump truck, him in my impala he pulled up next to me at a light and told me the car stalled when he was driving. really didn't think anything of it until i parked kinda cocked sideways on a crub with the passenger side up on the curb shut my car off then went to start it it would not stay running, it started but would stall unless i gas and brake and put it in gear, hoping that i hit drive after that i left and came back like ten min later parked in the exact same spot and angle and it did it again but then later on level ground did not happen. anyone who is having the stalling problem for the hell of it park your car on that same angle passenger side on a curb and try see if there car does the same! i luckily haven't bent over for the dealers and spent one dollar to fix it because there scam artists and after seeing all of the money some of these people have spent it makes me sick! chevy should be ashamed of themselves and i think they all should get interest on the money they've spent ten fold i bet if this was a gm employees daughter or mother they'd get snappy about fixing the problem..

my 2000 impala would stall going down the road. first trip to dealer found no issues, next day i took it back cuz it did it again that night. then they thought ignition control module. well three days later it did it again. then i finally convinced them to change the crankshaft position sensor and that was over a month ago and no more problems so far! seriously people if your impala stalls while driving and the dealer says nothing is wrong since there isn't a code on the computer for it, don't believe him and have them change the sensor anyway! i spent over $1300 chasing this problem and all it ended up being was a $70 part!

This car has been a mess since the day I bought it. Bought as "dealer" car only to find out from transmission guy and confirmed by engine guy that it was a rent a car fleet vehicle that had been in 2 accidents. Anyway, I had purchased an extended warranty only to be told they couldn't find my info. Luckily I found my signed papers but, had to pay out of pocket and get partially reimbursed from GM. Anyhoo- a right side control arm, several tie rods, a new transmission, automatic window trouble, a new engine, a new starter, numerous other troubles, and now it's doing the stalling thing. I am a single mother with 4 children- one of whom is an infant. This car has drained me financially and I still have one more payment to go. It's a shame- it's such a comfortable and spacious vehicle. It is a danger to myself and my children. Drivers are very aggressive and I don't need to get rear ended or worse. Can anything be done? I am not in a position to get a new car, I'm afraid to buy a beater with more problems to fix but, I work full time to support the kids and need a vehicle. Tell me more about a class action suit. GM should have some sort of responsibility to their customers.

Not only is the car cutting off, the electrical system seems to be problematic such as the thermostat for heating/air conditioning now only operates to the number 4 and the paint is literally falling off the car in patches. Initially when the car starting shutting off while in drive, I had a tuneup. That did not change the situation, so I changed the fuel. That seemed to have helped a lot, but the problem did not go away completely. I went to the Dealer and he said he needed a "Check Engine Light" on in order to assess the problem. DO NOT LET SOMEONE ELSE'S DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE CLEAR ANY CODES IN YOUR COMPUTER. The Dealer needs to see these codes and the other person's machine codes are very different from the Dealer's code so now I am waiting for the check engine light to reappear. I do find that If I let the car run idle after sitting for more than 5 hours, it runs better.

My car stalls without a notice. I am very concerned about this b/c I am scared it will stall on the freeway and an 18-wheeler might be behind me and kill me. I took my car to the dealership b/c the a/c went out and they replaced the fuel regulator b/c of the recall. Well, about a month later my car started to stall, it starts back up right away but I am scared to drive it. I put in a new gas filter, did a tune up on it and I am about to take it to the dealership so they can clean out my fuel injectors. Chevrolet should do something about this since it is very dangerous.

Sometimes my Impala won't start after sitting for a brief period (30-90 minutes), it also hesitates while driving, where it feels like it is losing power, and most importantly, it has stalled on me while I am driving upwards of 55 mph on highways. It almost always starts back up after a short period (five minutes), and sometimes immediately starts back up. However, it is a very dangerous condition. I no longer will take my 1 or 3 year old in the car, and have to borrow relatives' cars to take them anywhere. Although I have an otherwise nice car, it essentially useless to me. I have taken it to my mechanic and multiple dealerships several times, and they always tell me it is fixed or they can't find anything wrong with it. Inevitably within days (and sometimes hours) after getting it back, I have the same problem. I have spent hundreds of dollars to get it diagnosed and "fixed", but to no avail. It has gotten to a point, that although I otherwise really liked the car, I am shopping for a new vehicle.

The car has been stalling while driving and not starting on occasion. The last time it stalled on a busy street but restarted after several times. The next morning the car would not start and we had it towed to a mechanic. When they went to push the car into the garage of course it started. They checked the computer and saw a sensor error and thought the problem was fixed by replacing the fuel regulator sensor. 6 days later, it wouldn't start again. After a google search, I was surprised that there are other impalas with the same problem. We have enjoyed this car tremendously and have not had any other problems. We'll take it back to the mechanic and see what else he suggest.

Try replacing your CKP sensor (Crankshaft position sensor)! We had the SAME EXACT issues as everyone on this board AND already had the fuel regulator changed per the recall. The repair out the door should cost 200-225 dollars.

We were getting stall while driving and not. Also, intermittent no-start. We were also getting an error code stating bad data was coming from this sensor.

So far no problems after the repair. We were going to do it ourselves but apparently you need to reprogram the main computer afterwards and we did not have this capability. Otherwise, right wheel off, pull off covers, remove belt, impact wrench the crankshaft bolt, pull off the pully and there it is - replace, reprogram. Good luck!

Labor - difference

The stalling while driving has been going on now since just before Halloween. Would not start when I got out of the grocery store after picking it up from the dealer (check engine light coming on but will not turn over). Yikes, the ice cream is melting! I go get a friend from across the street and try it one more time and it starts. Whew! Starts all weekend and appears to be running better until Monday morning when I'm on my way to work... poof... stalls while driving but does start right away and I get to work.

I've replaced the plugs & wires, fuel filter and fuel regulator (recall item) and the problem seems to only get worse. I took it to the dealer to have a diagnostic done and no codes came up. The dealer wanted to have his mechanic take it home overnight with the on-board computer but I declined. They said nothing was wrong but noticed my thermostat was staying open (but would not be the reason it stalls). In frustration I took my car home and naturally on the way home from work the next day the car stalls on the way to the freeway and it takes me 15 minutes to get it started again.

I still owe on this vehicle and if this is the end of it's life already, I am completely screwed! It's really a shame, too. I love this car and it has bee relatively problem free for 6 years now. Currently I'm shopping for a new vehicle. With any luck I'll be able to trade this beast in for something more reliable.

My car just one day decided to stall on me while waiting in line at Taco Bell. It happened again about 1 week later, took it to the Chevy dealer they found 1 for stall on deceleration, reprogrammed PCM. A few days later stalled again. I can be just starting to drive or have been driving for some time. It does not matter if I am at a red light or driving 75 mph on the freeway. I can usually start it again while in neutral but a few times I had to wait a few moments until it would start again. I returned it to the dealer and they felt it was the ignition switch (that it was shorting out) switched that out, it stalled the next day. My engine light does not come on so there is no readings. They installed a VDR to record the system when it stalled again but of course they couldn't get a reading from it other than it stalls all together completely. It still stalls sometimes two times in a day and then not again until ten to twelve days later. They have no idea what is wrong with it. If the dealer doesn't know who can know? Anybody? Help!!

About three weeks ago my Impala started hesitating on take off after it warms up. I took it into the shop and they reset the computer. I drove it again for about a week, and the problem started again. I took it back to the shop. They replaced a coil and told me that fixed the problem. Drove it for about four days, it started again. Went back, Wires and Plugs replaced. Drove it for a few more days, started again. I am told that the vehicle keeps having a miss fire on the number four cyclinder. The shop I had it at was not able to fix the problem. I then took it to the Chevy Dealer. It has been there for four days. I am told that they can't fix the problem. This I don't understand. This is a vehicle that chevy builds and sells. Why can't they fix the problem. Has anyone ever heard of this type problem? If so please let me know, Thanks.
