Impala 3.8 V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 36,045 miles

Of course, right after my car is over it's warranty I have a malfunction. My speedometer stated going haywire! It started out just being a flat line and not moving at all. Like it was frozen. Then it started going backwards, starting at 60. I would shut it off & then it would start at 50, then 45, etc. Now it is stuck on 110 & when I drive it goes up (where 165 would be). I had to travel this weekend and was so nervous that I was going to get a ticket because I had to pace myself with other cars.

Impala

  • Automatic transmission

Just a few weeks ago, around 58,000 miles, the water pump went out and had to be replaced. I say that as the possible reason that the water shorted out the speedometer and gas level indicator on the instrument panel. The problem is exactly as described by the others on this website. I have never had a car where the speedometer has gone out. I am not a young driver and have owned many cars in my life.

Based on the complaints on this site as being the same exact gripe I would say that this is a manufacturer's defect for certain.

Impala LS 3.8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50,000 miles

I would start the car & it would read out 0. after driving for like 20 minutes it would jump up anywhere from 30 - 70 mph higher than what I was actually driving. Sometimes after turning off the car the speedometer would just sit at like 30,75, 90 mph with the car turned off. Every time it would happen I would just pull the fuse for the cluster assy & it would reset the speedometer. Then after it happened like 20+ times & getting really pissed off I finally took it to my local Gm dealer. The service advisor there said when the tech diagnosed it that it brought up multiple error codes. Luckily I bought an extended warranty & it only cost me my $100.00 deduct.

Impala LX V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 46,000 miles

The speedometer is on the fritz, Like the same problem I read about somebody else's it starts out reading around 35mph when I know I'm going faster than that and then another time it reads 0 mph and gets stuck there. When the vehicle is turned off the needle is stuck on 75mph. The car is only 2 yrs. old with 46000 miles on it. Chevy warranty only covers 36,000 miles. Which I think is a bunch of sh*t for a brand new car. Now, we called to have it repaired and they won't cover this, other dealerships even on brand new cars have a higher mileage warranty rate. Now, to me this should be a safety recall because it is needed to be working correctly at time of inspection, it is a very expensive defect to be wrong with Chevy products and after reading that other people have the same exact complaint and nothing being done about them I think Chevy is going to ruin their reputation because I like other people are definitely going to be spreading the word on staying away from Chevy products. If anybody else had been in this situation and has better luck in resolving this issue please let me know.

Impala

  • Automatic transmission
  • 90,500 miles

I have a 2004 Chevrolet Impala. I've been having problems with my speedometer hanging. Most days it will be correct. Then again I'm not so sure. I've gone down the highway and it showed me going 0 mph, when I know that I was going at least 60 mph. Right now as it sits in park with no keys in the ignition, it shows 75 mph. I've called Chevrolet. They say there is no recall. I think that this is CRAP! I took my car to the dealership and they told me that there have been several people that have brought their car in with the same problem. It was the same make and model, just different year ranges. If anyone can help me with this, please! thanks so much for reading this and I hope that Chevrolet gets enough complaints to get a recall on this. Apparently they are either turning a blind eye to it or just don't give a damn! I do. I am a single parent with 2 children. I can't really afford to pay for mistakes that Chevrolet or GM companies made while manufaturing the vehicle that I have purchased from them.
