When starting the vehicle, the engine intermittently starts, runs rough/sub idle then stalls. When the engine starts it seems to run normally, but on at least three occasions, while driving the vehicle the engine would stall and I would loose power steering and brakes. I took the vehicle to jeff wyler Chevrolet for repairs. They had this vehicle from Jan 21 - Feb 11, and replaced the body control module at a cost of approx $435 dollars. When I started the vehicle the conditions remained the same. I subsequently took the vehicle to an independent repair shop (kt automotive llc). They replaced the ignition switch and condition was corrected (approx cost $180 dollars). Note; this condition existed with multiple or no additional keys on my key ring. On 17sept GM recall 14350 was completed on my key(s). Given the experiences described above, this recall will not correct the faulty ignition switch defect on this vehicle.

Starting in February of 2012, my car has failed to start on several occasions. I have had this car for 3 years and it has let me down so many times. I go to crank my car and it doesn't do anything. I took it to a certified mechanic and he told me it was the security system and he showed me how to reset it. You turn the ignition to the on position, wait for the security light to blink 3 times, then turn the ignition back to the off position and wait about 12 minutes and then your car will crank. If not repeat the steps and wait a few minutes longer before trying to crank it. I have waited up to 1 1/2 hours. I have been late for work, stuck in 100 degree weather with my kis, couldn't rush daughter to hospital when she had a 102 degree fever. This is very dangerous and I am sick of this unreliable car!

Car will not start. Need to wait 10 minutes to attempt start again. Failure is likely due to faulty anti-theft security system that reads the ignition key incorrectly but not sure. Safety issue is 10 minutes in the hot Texas summer can mean instant dehydration to an infant. I am the father of an infant! some other Chevy model of the same year (2005) have had the ignition lock switch replaced and I believe the same should be done with the 2005 Chevy Impala.

After the ignition is shut off with either the key in or out of ignition, when any door is open the radio is supposed to turn off. Periodically the radio will stay of even after the door is opened. Most times, the radio will go off if the door is opened back up, but there have been some times that the radio never shuts off. The sensor is combined into the lock assembly. I have been checking forums for any Chevy, GMC, Saturn, or other GM models and it seems to be a common problem. I also have a Saturn outlook that is doing the same thing.

I was merging and exiting off the expressway on my way to work and went to use my turn signal and it quit working. Upon arriving at work I tried it again and nothing...I then tried my other turn signal and hazard light also and they didn't work either. I do alot of expressway driving to different cities due to my job of which I have to change lanes and merge and turn quite frequently so this is a major concern with my turn signals and flasher not working.

The ignition on my Chevy Impala will not turn. It is locked and will not turn. I have read of other sights that other Impala are having the same issue. The dealer is not helpful and tom gill Chevrolet in florence, ky said there were no recalls on my car. However, I saw one on the web. No wonder Chevy is having issues with the recall the reps are not helpful and do not want to find a solution. The dealer says there was never a recall affecting my car.

Seems a lot of 2000-2005 Impala are experiencing the same issues as I am with the dash instrument panel and possible issues with the passlock system. Sometimes I have to wait 10-15 minutes to crank my car when it wont start or do the lock and unlock trick to reset the passlock system. Ironically enough haven't had issues with the ignition switch which now has an active recall. Instrument panel speedometer stuck on 120 mph while in stop position...almost got a ticket over memorial day weekend because I was speeding...showed the officer my speedometer that was sitting on 90 mph at the time and he gave me a warning and told me to get that fixed.

Impala 6-cyl

  • 74,000 miles
The passlock sensor went bad at 74000 miles. I could not start my car for up to a 1/2 hour. This happened several times. I had the pass lock sensor replaced at a cost of approximately $600. Shortly after the replacement the speedometer became stuck at 60 mph. I discovered when I turned my key in the ignition the needle on the speedometer would drop. If I turned the key several times it would reset itself. I do not want to do this because I fear it will wear out the ignition switch. Then the gas gauge stopped working. The needle gets stuck far beyond the full or empty line and will not budge unless I do ignition switch thing. I have to use my trip meter and guess how much fuel I have left. The "needs fuel" light is still working so far. Then the temperature gauge stopped working and now the fan motor sensor is also going bad on the A/C unit. These issues should be part of a recall. I cannot afford to keep fixing this vehicle. As I understand it these problems are part of the cluster gauge system and there have been many complaints about it.

Impala 6-cyl

  • 87,000 miles
This is for information only: Our car's speed odometer started acting up--registering high speeds when hardly moving and no speed when on the interstate- in November, 2010. I called the 800 number in the owners manual and after exchanging phone calls for several weeks the told me that they would furnish a new instrument cluster for our car free as long as we paid the labor to have it installed at a local dealer. I had to take car to dealer so they could get correct instrument cluster number so they could send correct one. Dealer contacted us when cluster was there and we took car in. As luck would have it we had a card from either the dealer or GM for a one time 10% discount. We were able to use this and had cluster replaced for $135 total labor and no cost for parts. Well worth a few phone calls to GM/Chevrolet.

Impala 6-cyl

  • 122,000 miles
The problem started with the security light coming on. Then the temp gauge stopped working. Sporadically would not start. I waited 15 minutes with key in the on position, when security light went off, turn off and back on. Most times this would work. Headlights would flicker on and off. Driver side window stopped working. One day my dashboard, and door controls just went hay wire. Car will not turn over at all now. Key easily slides out of the on position. Have already had car looked at several times with no success. When researching this issue online, it seems that many other people are having this very similar issue. At this point it is a safety concern for me and my family.

Impala 6-cyl

  • 120,000 miles
My 2005 Chevy Impala intermittently fails to start. It will restart after waiting about 15-20 minutes. This is a similar problem (potential safety issue) I had with a previously owned 2000 Impala, and other frustrated Impala owners express online. Certified technicians are unable to pin point the cause and GM customer service was not helpful when contacted on the matter.
