As I'm approaching up the highway 1/2 mile from the car that is slowing down ahead I tried to press in my brakes but my car refused to stop I tried turning my while off it failed to turn. Basically I went straight in the back of the car. Its like the car jump as I approach the car ahead as if it reset itself then approach to turn after hitting the vehicle in front me it was a very scared site to experience. No airbag came out it was just me bracing myself against the seat holding on the wheel bracing hoping the car stops.

The replacement sensor which is supposed to correct my problem, the message service airbag comes up on the dash beneath the steering wheel and the passenger airbag light indicates the air bag is off even with the passenger sitting in the seat, will cost me $992.50 to fix, just for a censor this seems more like a computer, not an itty bitty sensor. Sounds like an engineering design over-kill, $992.50 really, this is unreal for a sensor!!!! something is wrong here. It only takes 8/10ths of an hour to fix it. That is why I call it an engineering design over-kill!!! I can see a computer costing $992.50 to fix, but not a censor which only takes 8/10ths of an hour to fix.

There is a loud tapping noise when you turn the A/C temp knob or try and change the air flow. The noise sounds like it comes from the passenger airbag area. The noise started when we bought the car on March 16,2010 but it only sound when we would change the air flow button. But today on September 8,2011 it started to make a faster louder tapping in the same place but this time in addition to the air flow bottom now its triggered by the A/C temperature knob. The noise is embarrassing as we as annoying!

Air bag service light came on dashboard of 2006 Chevrolet Impala. In addition to the red warning light indicating the air bag problem, message appears in message center on dashboard, saying to service air bag. My complaint is that the dealership says it might be close to $1000 to fix, yet airbags are supposed to last the life of a car. Yet, it will pass inspection if I chose to not get it looked at. I see hundreds of other cases where GM cars have the service air bag light on, and it should be covered by warranty or a recall to get this issue fixed. People are jeopardizing their safety, driving around with an air bag that may or may not work. It is not acceptable.

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Impala. The contact state that the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA campaign id number: 09E005000 (steering) and that the air bag warning light illuminated the day after the repairs. In addition, the contact stated that she continued to have issues with the steering. The contact spoke with the dealer and was told she would have to pay for a diagnostic to determine the exact failure. The contact believed that the manufacturer should be responsible for the repair costs and also stated that the steering continued to become tight and resistant when attempting a turn. The failure mileage was 74,000 and the current mileage was 80,000. Updated 06/01/11 the consumer stated the rack and pinion and power steering hose needed to replaced. The consumer stated GM offered to pay for the parts to replace the air bag, but not the labor. Updated evoq 07/12/11 updated 1/17/2012

I was at a stop light and a SUV came from the other side spun passed me and then her rear hit me head on- causing 12,000 worth of damage--my concern is the air bags in my 3wk old 2006 Chevy Impala did not deploy I was told that the sensors were just missed and I should be happy cause I could of been injured more than what had happened. Also my onstar was not activated-- I called them.
