Anti-theft locked. Will not allow the car to start. Allowed ignition to stay in "on" position as stated to do, still won't work. Tried this numerous times. (battery is fine-radio works, lights go on). Car keeps "dinging" when doors opened, hood, or trunk. The lights keep flashing on dashboard. Anti-theft light keeps going on. Car had to be towed. Loss of work and important appointments. Resetting the lock key did not work. You refuse to put in a recall, yet there are many complaints of the issue and the consumer has to pay for the services. GM will not accept responsibility of the numerous complaints.

Passlock sensor theft system, I believe this was a huge mistake for the GM company. As a owner of the 1999 Chevy Malibu, and exper. The problem many times. I have reviewed many complaints on the internet about this part as it keeps the vehicle from starting and is a very expensive part to replace. It is dangerous as well as a inconvenience to many....it can take up to ten minutes for the passlock sensor to reset in which case parents may have to leave there children in the cold or reverse in the heat which could be dangerous to infants or toddlers.. many people replace the part for hundreds of dollars and in return it defects again. It causes people to be late for very important appointments such as doctors visits or even the case of (work). I believe the GM company should evaluate the part and try to come up with a solution. Many people are talking about this part in which it should be recalled. As a owner of this vehicle I foresee a very big lawsuit coming about in result of injury due to the sensor not working properly. It causes more problems with the owner than it does with thieves that is supposed to be working against.

The theft system, passlock, fails causing the car to not start for 10 minutes. This can and has happened consecutively, sometimes causing a wait of 30 minutes, before the car can be started. Apparently the theft deterrent system is defective, known issue with GM, and does not read the key properly when inserted in the ignition system. So, it will shut off the fuel pump to the engine, disabling the engine.

The anti theft light comes on and we have to wait about 15 minutes before the car starts up. Sometimes even longer. This has caused dangerous situation from my wife and daughter where they have both been stranded at night not being able to get the car started. There are many people that have the same problem with this anti theft issue. Please make this manyfacturer recall and fix this issue.

I bought this car from a private owner not a dealership. The only problem it had when we bought it was the fuel gauge did not work. Now almost a year later I have multiple problems. The worst is while driving down the road at 65 mph my car just shuts off, no warning, the steering locks up and this happened with my 2 children in the car it was very scary. Then while sitting at a red light when I got ready to drive it died on me again. Each time I have had to pull over, sit for a few minutes, then try to restart and it usual does until Dec. 2. it died and now it will not start. It will crank, the fuel pump is working and I have spark. Other problems: While checking oil one day I leaned against car and it shocked me; brake lights work when they want to; cannot lock doors from drivers side; coolant has to be refilled every week (no leaks have been found); trunk is not wanting to open with button or key; radio/antenna gets 1 station; A/C worked when we got it and apparently the diode or something went bad but you cannot buy just the diode. I am tired of all of these problems and have read many others like these. My main concern is the car dieing while driving down road and locking everything up.

Security pass lock problem, security light is on, replaced ignition cylinder. Car still periodically shuts down while driving what's GM want to do wait until a incident like Toyota happens, or worse causing multiple deaths or injuries. I ran across to many similar incident like this on internet. What if someone is coming on a interstate and while merging this happens, it could cause horrific incidents GM is trying to rebuild its reputation and trust this isn't a good way.

I try to start my 1999 Chevy Malibu and it will not start the security system light blinks then about 10 minutes later I have a chance of starting it again. Sometimes it wont start the second try either then I wait another 10 minutes to start it. I am lead to believe this is something with the anti theft system. These vehicles need a recall so owners may have there cars fixed at the manufactures expense not ours. I just bought this car and it did seem ok for the first couple months. It is an ongoing problem.

The passlock system, in my 1999 Chevy Malibu, fails on a regular basis. Probably 1 out of 10 starts the passlock system prevents the engine from starting, and I need to wait 10 minutes before I can try it again; often, the 2nd try also requires waiting ten minutes. This is deeply frustrating on its own, but is dangerous when I need my car to start: For example, when it is late at night, or when my surroundings are potentially dangerous, or when I urgently need to get somewhere (hospital in an emergency!). I have read online that this is a problem that afflicts many owners of GM cars with the passlock system installed. This warrants a recall, or at least should require that GM provide alternative ignition mechanisms that do not have passlock systems installed.

The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact was informed by another motorist that her brake lights were not functioning. The contact replaced the brake lights herself. The failure occurred at least five times a year. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that a mechanism within the brake lights needed to be replaced; the vehicle was repaired but the failure continued. Additionally, the contact stated that she experienced difficulty starting the vehicle. When she turned the key in the ignition, it took approximately 15 minutes for the vehicle to start. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired for the problem. The contact also noticed that fuel would spill out of the tank when the vehicle was being fueled. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000 and the current mileage was approximately 114,000.

The theft system light kept coming on. It won't start I have to wait about 20mins before the light goes off. I have had my car for 2 -3 years. The problem started about a year ago. How can one light give me so much grief. My car is not worth stealing. Is this problem included under safety standard 102 (09V-073) Chevy Malibu recall ? please advise.

Our vehicle starts and stops running the anti-theft light blinks on and off. It locks into theft mode. After letting the key sit in the "on" position in the ignition for 10minutes the car will stop. The car will drive and shut off with no warning. The ABS and battery lights stays on. The car will shift out of gear when the key is out of the ignition. We've had the car towed to a GM dealership twice and they supposedly fixed the problem. They "reprogrammed" it twice almost $400 only to do the same thing over again! only to do our own research and find out online multiple GM owners are having this issue with the vats system/ passkey/passcar theft systems!

My 1999 Chevrolet Malibu, like many others, does not start half the time, because of its passlock system that is horribly unreliable and doesn't recognize the key. It makes this car almost worthless, as I never know when it's going to start or not, and it's caused me to be late to tests and even miss class numerous times. Something needs to be done about this passlock anti-theft system, it's a burden on so many of us Chevy drivers. It happens to me once a week.

Theft system on my 99 Chevy Malibu has been a constant source of trouble for the last 5 years. Have replaced ignition cylinder 3 times but still causing problems. This does not work and causes major problems for the drivers especially when it disables the car several times in a row. It appears the system malfunctions in many models and GM is probably aware it was a bad product and should be recalled.

I bought a 99 Chevy Malibu for my daughter. Only 55,000 miles on it. The vehicle all of a sudden started acting up, lights flashing, power locks going crazy locking and unlocking, all the gauges on the dash are going crazy, vehicle ended dying and wont start. Bought a brand new battery $80, then purchased a alternator $150 vehicle still not running correctly, vehicle ended up not running at all, had the vehicle towed to a GM dealer and they put the veh on diagnostics (charged $95) and was told that cannot run diagnostic because there is an electrical problem....fixed that problem ($300) and the vehicle still wont run because of the anti- theft lockout system failure (which I mentioned to the dealer, because of doing research on the internet) I have read online that there are several (more than several people) that all have the same issue with this vehicle, but are being taken for a financial ride with the repair facility not being able to figure out the problem and replacing part after part and the vehicles still don't run. GM obviously has been aware of this problem and the consumer is stuck to foot the bill with a obvious defect that they included in this vehicle. I really would like to know what it takes for a recall on a part that the manufacturer is fully aware and has done nothing to fix the problem, other than charge the consumer $$$$$$$ to fix their mistake. I have read over and over how people are stranded with this vehicle all because of a defective part : anti- theft lockout system failure.

1999 Chevrolet Malibu. No start problem due to a defective ignition switch and or anti-theft system. Ongoing problem. No set time or conditions. Have key separate from others. Not a weight of key ring problem. If a stall occurs or in an emergency occurs, vehicle is disabled for 10 minutes.I have tried to garner any and all information I can, including the non-help from Chevrolet to by-pass or correct this problem. This problem started approx. 4 years ago and is very random.
