The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated while at a stand still, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The contact stated that the power steering assist warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with needing the eps sensor replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 167,000.

As I was driving, my steering wheel would just shake. Especially when I try to turn the steering wheel left. There'll be a clicking sound then it stiffens up and I'm unable to turn, then it stops. Yesterday, 12.20.2020, I was driving with my 2yr old in the car and my steering completely stopped altogether in the middle of me turning the corner off the highway. I had to struggle to turn the wheel to get all the way home to safety. Someone please help me 😭 thanks!

The car will beep at me then power steering shows up on the dash when still. Then the steering gets hard. But if I turn it off then turn it on again it works okay for a little while.

The power steering suddenly stopped working while driving in street traffic. I had to manually steer the car using both arms and alot of force. I have used the car again since then and the same issue comes and goes at random while driving.

I have owned my 2006 Chevy Malibu since later 2018. It is now Nov 1st 2020. A few months after I got the vehicle I had issues. I have had all recalls replaced by fredericksburg Virginia Chevy dealership (they say that they did?) the entire time I have owned this vehicle the steering vibrates at high speeds. Also the entire time I've owned this car, when I speed up any hills my steering locks up my battery light comes on and the car pulls to the left or right depending. This is extremely unsafe! dealer didn't know what could cause it. I learned to immediately take my foot off the gas and the steering goes back to normal. This is not easy on a curvy hill road. This can cause a serious wreck. I have a 10 month old baby. This is frightening if it one day it doesn't fix by taking my foot off the pedal. Now my steering is stiff and is so hard to turn when driving at slow speed. The steering motor recall has already been replaced says the dealer. So why is it going bad again" it has only been 30,000 miles later. Why am I having a stiff steering wheel again if they replaced it? the tc light came on within hours of the steering going stiff. Why does Chevy distribute vehicles with such safety issues" I should not have to pay for the steering to be 'fixed/replaced' again! dangerous Chevy vehicle.

The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14V252000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electrical system, exterior lighting, vehicle speed control, electronic stability control), 14V224000 (power tran), 15V064000 (steering) however, the parts to do the recall repairs were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that while driving at low speeds, the power train, stabile-trace control, emergency brake indicator, and ABS warning lights were illuminated. The brake pedal became hard to depress. The contact stated that a friend replaced the brake pads however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not diagnosed. Sierra Chevrolet (7850 U S 64, memphis, tn 38133, (901) 382-5644) was contacted and informed the contact that an appointment was needed to be scheduled for the free repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. There was no further assistance provided. The failure mileage was approximately 19,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

Steering went out on my 06 with only 35K on it. Chevy would not 'participate ' in the repair even though there was a recall #14116B. I was driving on the city streets driving straight when the steering failed due to this faulty product, but fortunately I was not hurt. I was a Chevy supporter because my dad has always owned them, but now we will campaign against Chevrolet and their lack of care. I will upload documents when I receive the repair bill from our local Chevy dealer who also was not much help in this matter. The steering outage was as described in the recall.

The vehicle was taken to biggers Chevrolet (1385 E Chicago St, elgin, il 60120) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the steering shaft torque sensor failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact referenced the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 14V153000 (steering) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 159,320.

I was driving with my kids in the car and all of the sudden my car started beeping saying something about power steering, the wheel got hard and I almost crash trying to turn. I parked, turned the car off and turned it back on and steering wheel was fine. Then now it foes it all the time randomly while im driving. It is so unsafe I called the GM they said my car didnt qualify for the power steering recall that was put out for Chevy Malibu 2006.

The steering wheel continues to keep locking up while I'm driving and I have to cut car off and start multiple times in order for it to drive properly, it has done this while I'm driving and while I was parked. I was told that it has been multiple recalls specifically on this but they cannot do anything because it's not an open recall.

When vehicle is stationary, the steering while began to move and shake by itself. While, I was driving and making a right turn, the power steering completely went out and forced me to cross the center lane. When this happened, I almost hit head on with a car that was driving in the left lane. I had to use all my strength to get back into the right lane and not cause an accident. After this happened, the power steering error message popped up on the radio dash board.
