While driving, the steering wheel will suddenly become stiff and shifted from left to right in my hands. This lasts for about 10-15 seconds. The car doesn't seem to shift on the road but I have to hold on with both hands until the wheel stops moving and goes back to normal. This happens consistently and at all speeds since it began on Sunday (it's now Thursday) but at unpredictable intervals.

The electric power steering has failed several times almost causing my son to crash into another vehicle. My wife almost ran into a building and other vehicles because of the failure and now refuses to drive it. This has occurred weekly for the last two years sometimes with the failure lasting several minutes to several days. GM has recalled other years and needs to include all 2007 Malibu before there are more fatalities.

The 'tight steering' has caused my fingers to develop curvatures and twisted and enlarged arthritic knuckles. It is causing my shoulders to become painful requiring physical therapy. Carpal tunnel from the MINItrauma pushing and jerking the steering wheel to overcome its resistance to turn. (nexteer calls this 'torque overlay' and this torque overlay is effecting many other people like myself. My friends that drive a Malibu, Chrysler, Cadillac, and other vehicles with steering that can't be turned with one finger (too tight) are having numerous back/neck Fusion operation as I have. The stiff suspension results in 300+ shaking forces traveling through my body. Not a smooth soft-riding vehicles. These 300+ shaking forces cause my back, hips, neck to develop pain. My stomach become upset from the bouncing. The suspension is hard (like race car). The seating is hard molded foam which does not prevent these shaking/bouncing/jerking force from reaching my body and organs. Here is a link to my web site which has pictures of adults injuries from the tight 'torque overlay' steering. miketomich.com/pictures-adults-driving-injuries-1.html this is a link to the back injuries caused by the tight 'torque overlay' steering and the stiff suspensions. miketomich.com/driving-injuries-back-and-spine.html additional information is on miketomich.com module 2 and all six (6) line items. Please contact me with a contact confirmation complaint number. I have additional information/pictures that I will put into a report and send this to dr. Owner of a 2007 Chevy Malibu. Had to replace fuel pump out of own pocket yet recall has not been extended to my VIN#. also, while driving at a high rate of speed my power steering cuts out and the steering wheel is physically turns itself and locks the wheel throwing me into adjacent lanes and erratically moving my car on the road. This has been a safety recall on other 2007 Chevy Malibu with the identical part number that is also on my car but after contacting GM I have been told that this is normal wear and tear on a vehicle and that to their knowledge it is safe for me to operate my vehicle, even though I have already had to repair 2 other recalls out of my pocket, had 2 taken care of by GM, yet now have an additional 3 or more parts on my car that are under recall but not extended to my VIN# but already showing identical symptoms for failure for parts that have been recalled. I feel like my life is in danger driving a vehicle GM is telling me that is safe. Not to mention the depreciation of the vehicle due to these mechanical issues. I have had numerous other issues with this vehicle and GM does not care about my safety or my money. I feel robbed.

Complaint is that the steering column shakes and power steering light goes on and stays on. Very difficult to drive. I took it dealership immediately on beltway 8 and 225 in houston, tx but was told even back then that cost was greater than car was worth. I've been driving it ever since with faulty steering because I cannot afford to fix and still pay car note. I know they have recalled some but they keep saying my VIN doesn't have a recall. And I don't know how to get my VIN number in the recall.

It was very hard to turn the wheel which caused my car to hit the curb and side swipe a parked car. This problem is going to get someone hurt really bad if not fixed.

The electric power steering completely failed as I was driving up interstate 95 at approximately 65 miles per hour. Luckily I was able to pull safely to the side of the road. I shut the vehicle off and restarted it, which reset the power steering. I drove approximately another mile when the power steering failed again. I again attempted to pull to the side of the highway and restart the car to reset it. This time the power steering did not reset. There is a recall for this exact problem on most other vehicles this year, except for a few months which my vehicle falls into. There are still issues with the vehicles beyond what vehicles are included in recall 14772.
