My car has been flashing the power steering icon intermittently, the alarm will cease if you turn the car off and back on. Just a few days ago I noticed the power steering going out. The steering wheel will jerk to the left if you go faster than 55 mph. It will also shake to the right and left while in park. It becomes difficult to keep my car in its lane, and is quite terrifying. I went to the dealership to find out there is a recall on the years before and after the 2007 Malibu but not the 2007. I am submitting this complaint in the hopes that more research will be done to include the year 2007 as my mother also owns the same model (we bought them when my father passed away so we could be safe) and is having the exact same problem. I don't' feel that this can be a coincidence. Please help us in any way that you possibly can.

I was driving on the highway then all of a sudden the car beeps and the power steering stops in the steering column and power steering flashes on the stereo screen. When I stop the car and start it back the power steering works fine. Sometimes it works as it should and sometimes it stops working mostly at higher speeds. I'll cut the car off at different times then restart it and the power steering works fine. It goes in and out often.

My power steering went out, I was told no recall for 2007 model. I took it to the weisner GM dealership and paid $721.03 to have steering motor and module replaced on 08/21/14. I picked the car up at 5:30pm the same day, as soon as I started home I knew something was wrong. I immediately called but the service manager, [xxx], had left. I left him a voicemail. He called me the next morning and left me a voicemail explaining that GM was not responsible for everything that could be wrong with my car, rudely! I called him back and he again started a rant, I asked him to please listen to me, the customer. He said the earliest he could get my car in will be 08/25/14. On Friday I drove my car for work, I am a courier. In the afternoon around 3:30 while I was making a turn the chimes sounded and my power steering went out again! I called him, [xxx], back and told him that I was in a turn at the time and almost hit a barrier. He said he could not do anything until he gets the car back. I told him I tried to get the car back to him but he refused and said he didn't have any time until Monday, 08/25. I have explained to him, from the beginning, that I am a courier and am on the road at least 6 hours/day and that I really feel this is a safety issue and that I was afraid of having a wreck but I cannot afford not to work since my husband passed away 2 months ago. He said he had no loaner cars. I called the 866 number for customer care and spoke with kelsey who opened a ticket and escalated it. I should hear something on Monday, I hope. I do not think any repairs were done to steering...lack of communication" management" I just don't know. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

While driving on numerous occasions over the last two years under many different conditions on and off the freeway, my steering wheel has suddenly started to shimmy back and forth as the "power steering" warning appeared on the dash console and an alarm pings out three times in rapid succession. It is obvious that there is a loss of power steering during these occasions as I fight the steering wheel to ensure control of the car's direction. The condition persists still two years down the road. Too expensive to fix.

I purchased my 07 Chevrolet Malibu in Feb 2007. The power steering problem started last summer! the steering wheel is extremely hard to turn and it doesn't matter if I'm parking or turning onto a street. I have to reset the steering by turning the car off/on. In may of this year, I went to the er with chest pain and was diagnosed with a pulled muscle in my chest. I took my car to a mechanic in June, and was quoted $600 to replace the power steering. It amazes me that 2004-2006, and 2008 were recalled but not 2007. This is not fair at all. Please recall this part because I can't afford to fix this car!

A couple of issues with this car!!! first off, the latest recall done in 2014 with the brake lights not illuminating when pedal pressed but did when pedal wasn't depressed.after calling and going to multiple GM dealers, I had to research how to fix the problem and tell the GM dealer how! the issue is starting to act up again now. Starts off with the gear shift being nearly impossible to pull out of park and the cruise control acting up.wow, now a recall? second. The seering wheel has on 2 occasions jerked violently to one side then back and forth on it's own...while driving! almost as if the vehicle looses all power/dash lights come on it then jerks and makes a weird nose before it flips upside down and locks up! my 15 year old niece (who has had her permit 3 months) was driving one of the times! third - the airbag light randomly comes on / goes off when someone is sitting in the seat. I think I' should get all my $ back from the times I took my car in to find out "what the problem was" and had fixed (temporarily apparently) and now recalls are coming! honestly - there are enough things to worry about while driving (drunks, bad drivers, blow outs etc.) it's unsettling to have "known" issues with your vehicle but these companies will not fix!

I received a recall #13036 in the mail however my car has been unsafe to drive since June 2014 due to the steering wheel being uncontrollable it jerks to the right and to the left randomly it vibrates to the right and left when it is in park, I am not a mechanic but I don't think this has any thing to do with the brakes and I have observed many complaints such as mine from other people, call line people tell me to take it in and have a diagnostic run on it I have not been able to work for the last 2 months I just want my car fixed and this is some sort of faulty problem people are just more cautious due to all the recalls. Please follow up on mine and other steering problems. I have previously sent this problem to you 6/2014.

My car started pulling to the left and I was unable to control the steering wheel I pulled over checked my tires and when I got back into the car the steering wheel was turning back and forth on it's own while in park, I drove it home the whole time it pulled to the left and I was unable to control the steering I have been unable to drive it since I have read many complaints about the same problems from other people I think it would be a good idea to recall these automobile before some else has an accident.

Steering wheel locked up and I was unable to make a turn. I had to brake sudden so as to not run into the back of another car. Message came across radio saying power steering. I pulled the car over with alot of difficulty and called my husband to come to see if we needed a tow. When he arrived and started car it worked fine. We called our dealer as we purchased the vehicle only 4 days prior to this and they stated that they would investigate as there was currently no recalls for this year. I am worried about driving the vehicle now since this may happen again and since reading other comments from others that this is apparently an issue that GM is aware of and not correcting.

Malibu

  • 75,000 miles
It's happened 3 times, driving various speeds the steering locks up. First time I was making a right turn and the car instantly locked up. I put the car in park and powered car off then started it back up it was fine. Second time about 3 months after the first time went threw a stop light started up a hill and the dash lights all flicker the radio powered off and the seat belt noise went off 2 or 3 times and the car locked up. I parked the car powered it off. Started it again it was fine. Last time it happened I was at a stop light making a right turn and again the steering locked up and I had to park my car and power it off on a main street where it's very busy. I started it again and it was fine this last time was on July 15, 2014. This car with all the recalls I feel is a death trap.
