Malibu 6-cyl

  • 85,000 miles
Intermittent / occasional "steering lock","torque steer". while turning, under acceleration a warning bell rings, the steering "locks" for a "second". foot off the accelerator and normal steering returns. It took me a little while to understand the "bell" as I was concentrating on the steering and don't notice any warning lights. While only happening "rarely" it happened three times in one day last week. Curious why other years of this model (with electric power steering assist) are under recall and not this model.

Power steering continues to light up on radio from time to time and makes car difficult to turn. It usually happens when I first start my car starts then goes a way a few minutes after starting. Was only happening like once every 2 weeks but it has been becoming a common occurrence lately.

Malibu

  • 55,000 miles
2007 Chevy Malibu started having power steering issues. While driving out of a parking lot my power steering went out and began flashing on my display screen. I pulled over and turned the car off, when restarted the power steering worked again. It was fine for awhile and then out of no where the power steering would just go out. It has happened on multiple occasions and at various speeds. Then the power steering began flashing and beeping on my display screen but the power steering was working just fine. Now it is beginning to go out while driving again. This is a serious problem and I am not sure why every other model with this problem is being recalled and this one is not.

I was driving my car and the power steering went out and I hit an embankment. The dash dinged to let me know that it had went out. It comes and goes when it goes out. It will stay on and then it will go out. When it does go out the dashboard indicator will ding and let me know.

Malibu

  • 100,000 miles
While driving my car in town going around 25-35 mph, the steering wheel became hard to control. The on board display showed "power steering". after a while the power steering turned back on. After a few weeks of this happening the power steering only works for the first few seconds when the car is started then you can hear a "click" sound in the steering column and the power steering turns off. Took to dealer #1, advised the entire steering column needs replaced. Took to dealer ship #2, advised the power steering module needs replaced. Tried switching out the fuses for the power steering, still no good. Advised that this is an electric power steering and there is no power steering fluid or pump. Advised by GM to take to dealer ship and have it looked at. Est. Cost to fix power steering is roughly $700 out of pocket. I currently don?T have $700 to throw at my car and still drive with no power steering. GM as recalled Chevy Malibu for power steering all except the year 2007. This needs looked into as it seems that there 2007 year is having problems as well.

The power steering had gone out repeatedly at different times, both while driving and not. It would come back on at times and now for the last 5 months has been out completely and is a danger to drive. It is my only vehicle and I drive 3 children around regularly. It is nearly impossible for someone of my strength and size to drive. I fear it is a matter of time before we have an accident. I was absolutely amazed to see there was not a recall on my make and year but every other year Malibu. Malibu 6-cyl

  • 60,000 miles
Noticed after I first purchased the vehicle that when ever pulling into traffic or just accelerating quickly at all the power steering will go out causing the wheel to be "straightened" back up which yanks the car really hard causing for quick correction which can lead to over correction and then a wreck. Very dangerous in the rain or snowy/icy conditions since it yanks the wheel back straight and causes the car to slide. When this happens you can hear audible clicking noise coming from the column and sometimes even the warning dinging that the traction control failed. Seriously needs to be fixed because eventually it will cause wrecks and quite frankly deaths! very frightening when this happens! and apparently its not just my car.
