Power steering goes out-steering wheel shakes violently and vehicle is extremely hard to steer and control. Reported this problem via complaint with ntsb and with GM in August 2013. Was advised to have diagnostic testing completed on car. Did that ($110). Now GM is recalling this defect on all years except 2007. Why? same issue as other model years. GM diagnostics provided report that states power steering column should be replaced. This is no different than all of the other power steering issues in all other model years. The 2007 model should not be excluded!! recall this year as well!!

I continually experience sudden power loss while driving my 07 Malibu which my dashboard alerted power steering lost. At first this would happen randomly, however it has progressively gotten worse especially in warmer temps. I can no longer parallel park as the manual steering is much to hard. I'm scared to make any sharp turns as loss of power generally happens at that time.it's extremely terrifying to know at any minute my steering can go out while going 60 mph on a highway (which has happened) and I cannot maneuver my vehicle how it's suppose to maneuvered. Why are all other model years being recalled but not the 2007 model year"???" dealership will fix the issue at my own expense which is close to $1,000 as the entire steering column needs to be replaced.

Upon starting my car, I had no power steering and the display read "service power steering." After shutting the car off, it will reset. This incident has happened five times. Upon checking with a dealership, they informed me that there was a recall for 2005, 2006, and 2008 Malibu but not for 2007, and, therefore, I would be responsible for the repair. I'm frustrated that I'm experiencing the same problem as the other models but it is not recognized as a recall in the 2007 model. Why"?"

This vehicle has the same electrical power steering assist unit as other GM models that have been recalled, why is this vehicle not recalled. It will kick off randomly while driving and then sometimes kick back on while driving, now I have it immobile in my garage as it is undriveable. There have been several occasion I feared my life as I had to make quick turns to avoid potholes, etc. I no longer drive this vehicle and it remains immobile in my garage waiting for this to be a recall to find out that this model year is not included. This needs recalled or explained why it has been removed.

This vehicle has the same electrical power steering assist unit as other GM models that have been recalled yet they won't recall the '07. It will kick off randomly while driving and then sometimes kick back on in the middle of a curve. I have almost ran off the road a couple times because of this. I no longer allow my wife to drive my car because I fear she won't be strong enough to maneuver the car safely when the power steering disables. This needs recalled.

While driving on a sunny afternoon at 50 mph, the power steering service message displayed on the radio and the electronic power assist went out. Was able to pull off road and into a gas station. Turned off car. When returned to the car, started the car and the power steering functioned fine. Over the past five weeks since the first incident of this happening, it has happened 6 additional times. Each time the problem resets itself once the car has been turned off, allowed to sit off for a couple of minutes, and then restarted. Other vehicles with similar electronic power assist motors have been recalled, but for some reason this model has not been recalled. A non-dealership automotive service center indicated that this problem was part of a recall, and refused to perform the service. Dealership was willing to perform the service, as long as I paid, since the VIN did not come up in the recalls for the electronic power assist. Dealership indicated that sensor in steering column was faulty, but to replace I would need to replace entire steering column.

I have a 2007 Malibu which I drive back and forth to work everyday on the highway. On wed. 2/26/14 I felt a pulsing vibration while driving on the highway. A short while later I lost the power steering completely which needless to say was very dangerous trying to get to the side of the highway in heavy traffic with no power steering. I had to have my car towed to my local mechanic who told me that the problem was in the electronic power steering system. The parts were ordered at a cost of $856.54 and the total cost with labor was $1272.07. I have since been on-line and read page after page of problems with the electronic power steering for this year Malibu. I, as well as many others are wondering why this very dangerous problem has not been handled with a recall. Please advise.

For over a year, my 2007 Chevy Malibu ls V6 has had a problem with the power steering going out intermittently without warning for a few seconds at a time. This as resulted in a couple of near accidents--one which would have flipped the car had I not wrestled the steering wheel into compliance. I have had the car at a certified GM dealership on three occasions complaining of this problem. The first time they drove the car and said that they could not duplicate the problem, and gave it back to me. Second time they did duplicate the problem and charged me a hefty bill to replace the power steering motor. The third time, after the installation of the new power steering motor they essentially said they made some "adjustments." Nevertheless, the problem has persisted. I spoke to the service manager at the dealership who basically said there was nothing they could do (read, "would do"), and all he was authorized to do was to give me a voucher towards the purchase of any vehicle on their lot, new or used. That does little to solve my problem. I join my voice to the chorus of complains about the power steering in this 2007 Chevrolet Malibu--which is not the only GM vehicle with this issue. Will we have to wait until the body count piles up over this problem before GM is required by the NHTSA to recall these vehicles for proper repairs?

My steering wheel pulsate whenever it feels like it. My steering wheel locks up while I am driving. I have to turn my car off and then turn it back on in order to have power steering. I have spent money for rotors resurfaced, alignment, and tie rods. I am worried about this situation causing an accident. I have taken it to dealer where I was informed there was nothing wrong. There are a ton of complaints.

The steering tightens up, rack & pinion needs replacement and steering box is malfunctioning car was put in park and restarted, the power steering was not working and steering became extremely difficult, almost like manual steering. Steering wheel would shake intermittently. With these conditions, I was advised not to drive this vehicle. With all the complaints about this Malibu and all the problems with the ignition, which is in the steering column, my problems are probably related. To repair would cost around $2000 without labor.

While driving on the highway, the electric power assist steering stopped working. After I got off the highway, I shut off my car and restarted it about 10 minutes later. The steering was back to normal. This has happened several time since then and fear something tragic could happen. I contacted central Chevrolet in West springfield Massachusetts and they ran the VIN. Service department stated that there have been several recalls for that same issue it not for this particular car. What is it going to take before General Motors recalls the thousands of cars with the same issue? let's get these cars fixed before a tragic accident happens. The power steering stopped working all of a sudden. When I got to work I shut the engine off, and when I got off work the power steering was working fine. Since then it has stopped and started working multiple times. It will no longer reset when I shut the engine off, and restart it. We thought it was the eps fuse, but I had it tested and the service tech it was fine.

The power steering will just stop working as you drive. It used to be that turning the car off and restarting it would reboot it, but now it is just not working. The dealer said it is the same unit as the cobalt and there was a recall on that, but that there has been no recall for the Malibu. Apparently there is a problem with these columns. The problem continues.

(Chevrolet Malibu 2007) my power steering intermittently went out and the wheel jerks when your just sitting idle. Now my power steering is completely gone. Many Chevrolet vehicles had this exact issue and were recalled however they did not recall my vehicle. GM dealership performed diagnostic test and informed me I needed to replace steering column which would cost $1000, they would not cover any of it. Im not happy with Chevy and do not plan on purchasing anymore vehicles with them.

Traveling 60 mph on mountain pass and power steering alert came up on my radio screen then I lost power steering causing the vehicle to pull hard to one side. I had absolutely no power steering. I pulled the car over and turned the vehicle off. When I turned the vehicle back on it reset itself and the power steering worked again. It has done this to me several times. I travel across the mountain pass several times a month sometimes on very icy roads. If this were to happen on the icy roads, I run a severe risk of a wreck that could easily cause major injury or death.
