I was the first person in our town to purchase the new Malibu...won't ever own one again. All 4 door locks stopped working less than a year old. I am finally going to bring in to get them fixed this week. Only because I have the extra money. I had brought in once before and $1000 was just crazy. I have owned many new cars and I have to say this is the worst. Cheve, toyota, ford, bmw.... This malibu is just a cheaply made car. Having to roll the windows down to unlock your door is embarrassing and annoying. When I see someone with the same car I ask them how they like it and if they have had any problems. Guess what everyone has said...the door locks. Why hasn't there been a recall?

I'm just sick of having to manually lock my doors and not being able to remote start it. I wouldn't complain if I had to do it manually in the first place. But seeing that I have the luxury to have power locks it's annoying when I can't use them. What is the point?!?!? I'm surprised chevy doesn't fix them for free!!! I'm not the first and last one this has or will happen too. I did nothing wrong to make them not work so why should I or other chevy drivers have to pay over $1600 to have our power locks that we never broke its a manufactures defect. I love my chevy but its getting on my nerves!!!

Car was 7 months and was having intermittent locking and unlocking of doors. Remote also worked intermittently. Dealer replaced key under warranty. as soon as warranty expired, key began to fail with same symptoms. Dealer wanted $100.00+ to replace. I used the second key for two months and had same issues. I opened up the remotes and found that the bracket holding the battery was loose. I unsoldered the brackets and reformed them so they sat flush on the circuit board. Resoldered and have not had any more intermittent problems for 3 years. Except, now I found out that the carbon on the contacts of the rubber pads wore off and the buttons I use most would not work. Again, Dealer wanted $100.00+ to replace and reprogram a new key. I replaced just the rubber face ($12.00) and keys work great.. got new rubber faces from ikeyless.com.. there are other Internet companies who sell the rubber faces.

I bought a 2008 Malibu LS used from West Chevrolet on the airport motor mile here in maryville, tn. It only had 22,000 miles on it when purchased. While under the 3 year or 36,000 mile warranty my passenger front door lock stopped working. The only way to unlock the door was by pulling the lock itself up or down to lock. This was quit annoying. The dealer fixed it with no hassle. 200 miles out of the warranty both driver side door locks did the exact same thing. took it into the dealer and they told me that "i'm not covered under warranty anymore so to fix it will cost $550." Now a few months later and the rear passenger side door has gone out as well. Out of four door locks i only have 1 operating door lock. I cannot use the back seat for anything because no one can get the doors unlocked to get in them. If by chance they happen to unlock it would be a serious safety hazard as my two young nephews in car seats, who ride in the vehicle would not be able to get out if something were to happen and i would not be able to get to them. This is a serious safety issue that Chevrolet needs to be aware of and fix for their paying customers.!!!!!!!!!!!

started having issues with my windows being stuck up or down, replaced the fuse that was blown twice still not working right then the door locks in the rear door stopped working, next the front window start getting stuck both up or down took it in they "fixed" the window, yeah little over $100. Next the back windows are still not working and the keyless entry stops working,take it back again. Change battery in keys and fix more wiring in the front doors, leave and couple days later same issue so replace the actuator and everything is working for about a week next thing I know all my door locks are going up and down at random even when the car is turned off! I am 700 dollars into this POS and still not fixed.

I bought my 08 malibu in feb 2011 to save gas from big suv what a joke this car is ,will never buy another junk pos GM car again no wonder they needed baild out they build cars with parts that were all made on mondays only have made 3 pmts so far and has been in shop for new tourq converter, front passenger door lock switch, clunking poping in steering wheel, now both drivers side power door locks are dead , And have humming and viberation at 55 mph from front end,

Never never again will GM get any more of my money . In fact im going back to the dealer so they can try to put me into a diff car by another manf and its a chevrolet dealer , its not their fault GM makes junk cars that will never last your loan term .STAY AWAY FROM MALIBU AND GM AUTOS JUNK JUNK JUNK !!!!

I had electrical problems with my 08 Malibu since day 1, it only had 53 miles on it when I bought it. The Onstar would go off every five seconds, telling me to turn down different roads. My electrical locks went out 8 months after buying the car. I keep having problems with the transmission/or the car not wanting to crank due to the sensor on the transmission. I would have to unlock the steering, put the car in neutral, then back to park, then the car would crank. I brought the car into the dealership several times in the first year to be fixed and nothing was ever resolved. I was always told by the Service Writer/Mechanic that they could visually see I was having problems with the car, but every time they hooked the car up to the machine, no codes were found, so there was nothing they could do. My dome light and the front passenger light quit working about 1 year and 6 months after buying the car. The sensor in the passenger front seat to cut the air bag on/off would malfunction all the time. You could weigh over 110lbs and the light would still be air bag off. I replaced the thermostat in the car, tuned the car up at 60000 miles, always ran synthetic oil in the car since first oil change, keep new tires on the car, brakes, etc. I loved the design, and the way the car felt on the road, real smooth. I just could not handle four years of electrical problems, and nothing ever done to fix it.

I, too, have power lock issues on this vehicle. I purchased it used in Feb. 2010. The back passenger lock was not working, but I didn't realize it at the time. Not long after my keyless entry stopped working (not sure if it was related or coincidental). Then, all locks went crazy. They would lock and unlock at random, or sometimes I would just hear the switch being activated, but locks would remain in place.

I took the vehicle to a local Chevy dealer, and was charged $90 for diagnostic, and they replaced a switch in the passenger side door (I will also mention that they kept my car MUCH longer than anticipated, and actually told me that THEY FORGOT ABOUT IT! But that's a separate rant...). A few weeks later, all power locks stopped working. They must be locked/ unlocked manually (which is a giant PIA when only 1 door is keyed and you have a 2 year old to wrangle into a car seat in the back!) They do, however, engage/ disengage at times when I put the transmission in drive or park, so I know there is some power going to them.

I bought a newer, low-mileage vehicle to replace my last car, an electrical lemon. sigh Car of the year my @rse! I can't believe there's not a recall on this. I'm $150 in, with no end in sight.
